When we first were sent home in Florida for 14 days from Covid, I started taking my rum tasting and collecting more serious. I've participated in 9 auctions and purchased from most of them. In the beginning I would go after very specific rums that were hard or impossible to find locally, Caroni's, rare Plantation extremes, any Cuban rum. I would do my homework check ratings and prices.

It can be a bit addictive if you strategically wait for 5 minutes before the end and go to work. The auction stays active for 2-4 hrs after closing until no bids for several minutes, so during the entire process your getting bumped. At least that's my method, along with having a spare 10 bottles of low hanging fruit to pick off. The freight from UK to US is 75L for one bottle and 120L for 6 so I always try to end up with 5-6. I admit sometimes I overpay because I really wanted something, but have finally learned to pass and next month ot two you can get something for 25-30% of last month. Anyway today I got 5 of my 6 Bootle haul pictures below. Bacardi Limitada I've had plenty but it was a filler at $35 for a liter to hit my magic freight for 6 bottles. I opened my Havana Club Maestros at my friend's Cuban Resteraunt tonight for him to try, which is a personal favorite and left it on the table for him after he compted my families dinner. WTF rum is to be shared with good friends.

it's been a lot of fun this months haul is unusual but bargains, still waiting on a Clement's from the UK, I think I've had the Plantation before but the dark 20 yr old Mexican rum looks intriguing.

I bid 26 on a bottle

I thought it was a good deal but when I got shipping cost it was a other 20 odd on top so I ended up paying few more pounds than it cost in the shops it's only worth it on bottles that are hard to get or u really want it's not cheap even for people in uk

I suppose that RumAuctioneer now is much cheaper for those of you that lives in the UK, cause most of us inside the EU has stopped bidding at RumAuctioneer after that the EU office in Germany was closed.

We can't compete when taking the costs to get it home in consideration.

Nowadays I'm mostly at Catawiki and sometimes at RumTrades.

Living in London and flying home to the US a few times a year, it feels like I should be stuffing my extra bag with the rum bottles... :) OR maybe we should have a RR gathering here in London so you all can come pick up your winnings!

@kudzey can you recommend any European websites for competitive prices?

Actually I see many auction prices exceeding online shops prices here in Europe. I understand bidding on unavailable bottles but the race for don papas is a strange phenomenon to observe :). In Catawiki the auctions finish is not synchronized, if I win a bottle from one seller I might be willing to pay more for the other one from the same guy as they usually send these as a bundle and you don't pay shipping fee twice.

I always asked myself who bids on this low cost bottles. Because the shipping is too expensive for europeans. Now I understand. As a filler it makes sence.

I think the Bacardi bottle was mine :) You skipped the 8y old? I had too many of them and after two bottles I lost interest in Limitada.

I try to get only rare rums at auctions. Therefore I don't bid on fillers. There is always a good chance that you get this rums very cheap because europeans are not interested in them.

You was lucky and got a Caroni already?
