El Dorado 2006 - Worth it?

I wouldn't spend more than 80 € for something like that. Buy the rare 3rd collection, they will increase in value and will no longer be available in some years. Skeldon, Albion, Enmore 96, PM 97.

I have purchased and reviewed all three. My order of preference is: Versailles, Port Mourant, then Enmore. They are all very good rums. Taste is personal and thus subjective but I found the Versailles to be truly excellent. They are all sipping rums - not to be mixed, imo. Part of my own interest in purchasing them lay in the history associated with the stills themselves. If you haven’t already, I think you’d probably enjoy some reading up on that aspect. For me personally, they were worth it. They are great rums to savour and think about.

Yohobro: I spent $80 US for a bottle of 2006 Enmore about a year ago. I rated it as a 7, but for that kind of cost, it should have rated at least as an 8. I cannot recommend buying that one.

Vomi, thanks for the sources, those were a great window into the El Dorado world. As a business, they seem to know how to use everything they have. Hopefully I’ll get to see it in person at some point. I haven’t seen the 3rd collection, or anything special edition from ED yet. I think that’s why these three sparked my interest so much. I found them for $68 CAD which is enticing. I’ll probably end up trying the Versailles. That’s also a good point about higher end rum at 40%, I never really thought about that. I don’t think these rums would classify as high end necessarily, but a great point nonetheless. Foggy, thanks for the info. Following up with this one. I purchased the Versailles one a couple weeks ago and yes, it is definitely worth it. Not sure if it’s just because I am an El Dorado guy but man, does this hit the right notes. This is a real treat to smell and to sip. Great flavours of nuts and pepper. Some butterscotch and molasses, maybe a little orange zest. This is definitely my jam. Sweet but not a lot of fruit flavour. I am even more interested in the other two now. Might have to hold off on everything else on my watch list as these have gone straight to the top.

There is Versailles 2002 in cask strength. But you had the another one with 40%? I'm going to try the Diamond 1998 CBH soon... I heard it's one of the best. Don't know the mark yet.

The 2002 being at cask strength is highly enticing though I’ve never seen it anywhere up here. These 2006 editions were the first special edition types I’ve seen. Unfortunately we can’t import alcohol online where I live either so our choices are limited to say the least.

That's very cheap. For that price I would try them also. Can't find them in EU anymore, they were around 120 Euros each in UK.

Vomi: 120 euros?! That is crazy. Don’t get me wrong, these are great rums in my opinion but I wouldn’t pay that much for them either. Kudzey: I wonder the same thing. I would love to try some higher ABV El Dorado though I have never seen any to buy.

I think they are for the American market. That's why they are so expensive in EU. We can buy high proof ElDs for that price. We have the 2010 bottlings with higher abv here.
