Do you keep empty bottles and fill them with other rums for display?

Anyone keep a stylish or classic looking bottle when it's empty and then put a different rum in it for display? I have kept several. For example I dumped out the Captain Morgan Cannonball Blast rum and replaced it with Plantation Overproof Dark. I also kept my Diplomatico Single Vintage 2000 and refilled it a blend of 5 different rums and a touch of tawny port. Looks great on the bar and guests keep asking for a shot of it. I know sounds cheesy, but sometimes we purchase rum because it's in a great bottle.

I'm hoarding these things to make cool lamps out of one day. But still need a quality machine to cut the bottle.

Earl: I kept a LOT of my old bottles, but only for filling up with complex Tiki drinks like Mai Tai's. In the end, many bottles had to be thrown out because I had LOTS of empties from Admiral Rodney Princessa, which I consider to be the most perfect shape for storing mixed drinks in the fridge. It is short and perfectly square. It also has a wide mouth with a fat lip and a perfectly fitting cork. These are also great for pouring in a can of premium coconut water and filling up the rest of the bottle with less than stellar rum that needs improvement. I also saved a few bottles of Frigate Reserve because the shape was inspired by an old rum bottle that washed up onto the shores of Abaco. The owners of this rum company researched the bottle and found out that it was from the 1600's. The rum itself comes from Don Pancho. Two of the bottles are shown in my review for their 15 Year.

I keep some bottles that stand out but do not refill them with other rums (or anything else for that matter). For one reason or another that would feel too much like cheating myself. Besides, when I would do this with all those bottles I would have a hard time remembering which rum would be in what bottle. Too confusing!

The only bottles I reuse is the older Angostura bottles 1919 and 1824 cause I like them much more then the new ones. So when I repurchase those I fill the old bottles. Picture: My Angostura shelf.

I don't waste any empty bottle and I'm still in need for more. These are very useful for bar premixes and homemade liquors. A homemade cocktail in a fancy bottle is always a fantastic gift for my friends. I haven't started homemade rum blends yet but this is another purpose in keeping the bottles for. I tried to use some bottles as candlesticks but regular long candles are usually thicker than bottle neck and you need to put some effort to fit it in and make it look nice.
