It has been quite a while since I posted my list on my hated overpriced rums, but here it is again and updated. For fans of Foursquare ECS rums, you should be glad to see only one of them on this list. Most of them got my rating of 6, but their high price booted them out of my wish list for repeat purchases. Rums with these kinds of price tags should garner at least an 8 on my rating. The last four all rate as a 5 or 4 in my book, which means that they would all go down the toilet. All are ranked in order as I like them. Enjoy, for whatever it is worth if you still wish to pay more than $50 US for any of these. Paul, The only ones I have on your list right now is the Diplomatico 2004 (not tasted yet) and the Gosling’s Family Reserve. The Gosling I tasted long ago and then I thought it was quite good with lots of christmas spices in it, but my taste has of course changed since then and I don’t know what I will think about it today. When I’m deciding about repurchasing it’s both about price and my rating. If I should repurchase a bottle costing between 100-200€ it must have a very high rating.

Stefan: As for added sugar on those two that you have, Diplomatico 2004 has 24 gpl and the Gosling's Family Reserve has 15 gpl. I only tried a one ounce sample of the Goslings at a bar about 3 years ago and swore never again. I am also not a fan of their Black Seal.

Different People, different tastes. In my case, I like the Zacapa Edicion Negra very much, the best I have tasted from Zacapa. Also, the Foursquare ECS 2004 Single Blend 11 Year fits perfect my taste. The worst I've bought was the Deadhead Aged from Mexico, I don't like Mexican rum, bought it just because of the bottle. The Gossling Black Seal goes well for a Dark'n'Stormy, my summer favourite.

Interesting topic Paul B. I agree with you on the Goslings, the Don Q Anejo, and the Zacapa Negra. The rest I have not tried, but if they are in the $100 CDN range, then I will be sure to stick to my wish list. In terms of value for taste, I would put Appleton 21 on that list as well as the Kirk & Sweeney 23, both of which are well over the $100 mark in Ontario. Cheers!

Conversely, if one likes a few on my list, that does not mean that they would like most of the rest shown. And if your tastes are similar to mine and we agree, I can only suggest approaching the others with caution. These are all over $50 US and none were over $100. It is very rare when I go over the $100 mark.
