Same color. Bumbu Original is lighter, sweeter. A distinct aroma of coffee and nuts. Bumbu XO is less sweet, slightly less mellow. Less pronounced aroma. This is just my opinion and taste.

I didn't do a direct comparison but tasted these two. While bumbu original is clearly a spiced rum with a lot of sweetness and banana added, I can't really tell whether the XO version is a natural or a spiced one. I'm curious where the tobacco taste could originate from. Any idea about this?

I guess you're right that Original can be sweetened. XO natural. I don't smell tobacco.

Both are sweetened and have different origins The Original is made from Barbados rum, but not really a rum because of the low Vol., just 35% (to call it rum it needs min. 37%), with natural flavours and a sugar contain of 40 gr/l. The XO is made from Panama rum, 40% Vol. and finished in sherry casks, sugared with 19 gr/l. In my taste, two completely different rum, the Original as a dessert, XO is for sipping ok. I would prefer the XO. The Bumbu website shows you details. Also thefatrumpirate.
