Can't wait to get rid of it.! Has anyone else felt this way? I just had to drive 200 miles to get two bottles of Pusser's Gunpowder Proof. I am now sipping on the last glass of it after about six weeks. It is just simply too rich compared to the other rums in my opened bottles, and now I am glad that it is finally gone. I won't be going back to get more. It is a great rum, but just not for me. On the flip side, I had not owned a bottle of Ron Centenario 9 Year Commemorativo in a few years. Since I have it rated as a 7, it was not high on my list to be replaced. However, I bought two bottles for cheap on that same rum running trip. The smooth butterscotch notes are incredible. I will replace this one when it is finally gone. I emphasize that cases like this one are extremely rare for me. Most wind up as "can't wait to get it and can't wait to get rid of it", just like the slogan for the two best days from any boat owner.

That happens over here every now and then as well. Some examples are; Plantation Barbados 5yo, Santiago de Cuba Anejo, HC 7yo, Neptune Gold and Pusser's red label. The more I understand my own taste the less it happens but it is the price you pay for a more adventurous rum-journey so to speak I guess. In a way I am glad that this occurs every now and then as it shortens my to-do list often by the dozen as a style is not what I expected of it and I can move on to the next style or region.

Harrie: It is extremely rare for me to like the first sip from a new bottle of rum and then like it even more as the bottle slowly empties. Sugar bombs are notorious for slowly degrading and I just don't buy them any more. On the flip side, it is also extremely rare for me to get pissed off and pour the whole bottle down the drain. I have become a master of saving really bad rums from going to waste. Bad rums actually inspire one's mixer creativity. Great rums can only be accepted for what they are and one should never dare to improve them.
