Oh, the joys of having a spreadsheet with all of my rums ranked in order!!! What is shown below is my ranked list of my own favorite rums from each country or location. All locations with minimal entries were omitted. They are rated from a 10 at the top to a 6 at the bottom. And as you can see, the best from each location is not always the most expensive! Enjoy! It is, but Plantation can't use the origin since they added sugar. It's not allowed in Barbados.

Interesting, the bottle I own clearly brakes this law and shines with golden "Barbados rum" text.

I thought they protected already the use of origin but WIRD was not satisfied with all points. https://www.thespiritsbusiness.com/2020/06/producers-clash-over-a-gi-for-barbados-rum/ β€œIt is long overdue that Barbados rum is protected in global markets, and the tool to do that is a GI,” says Seale. β€œAt the moment, the consumer can buy a Barbados rum based on our reputation but end up with a substandard product because it has been adulterated with sugar." That's exactly the case with Plantation XO.

Adding complexity to the idea of unadulterated Bajan rums are companies like Malibu and Blue Chair Bay. Their original rums are distilled in Barbados. However, Malibu ships all of theirs off to Canada to be heavily flavored and sugared. How on earth the flavored "rums" from Blue Chair Bay get to keep calling their "rums" as being from Barbados is beyond me. Richard Seale is well aware of this erosion of the Bajan reputation for having no additives and is actively trying to do something about it. As for Plantation rums, as soon as any are sent off to France to age in cognac casks, I no longer accept their point of origin claimed on the bottle. How can one ruin an otherwise good Jamaican rum? Have Plantation send it off to France to be aged in ex-cognac casks and then labeled as Xaymaca. This one has no added sugar, but the cognac cask aging ruins it.
