So that others with similar or opposite tastes can judge which rums to buy next!!!! All of my own reviews also serve as my own record keeping on rums that I have not bought in a very long time and need to read up on the details.
I understand the reason. But I prefer to rate it 1 to 10 and not write atleast 50 characters. English is not my main language, so I not used to describe in details.
So my public review will be limited by my vocabulary to write a full review.
So I just find that feature annoying. :)
You can use Google translate to write a review. It would help you to improve your English skills.
It is important for me to write a detailed review as I can reconstruct the taste at a later date.
And if someone doesn't write anything about a rum, they could also rate a rum they had never tried.
Only detailed reviews are worth considering for me. I can't rely on just a number, even if it's an average of many votes. And the review didn't have to be complex, English skills you presented in your posts here are more than enough for ratings.
My friends like to look at my online cabinet to see which rums I haven't tried yet.

You can also write your ratings in Danish, just for your countrymen who don't speak English. You can also use only keywords to convey your impression (kudzey says). Don't be afraid to use a translator.
I always write my ratings (it's more the story the rum tells me) in German, for all the German speaking people. The translation in English is always underneath, just to improve my English (like vomi says) which I study decades ago.

RR was built to be a community where members learn from and engage with each other. I’ve thought about allowing private reviews that don’t add to the averages, but it felt like more of a personal note book. Please do feel free to rate in whatever language you feel most comfortable, one of these days I’ll get around to some kind of translator system :)
