after about a dozen bottles of dark rums, I am still a newbie, so I am looking for the one or another suggestions for my next bottles. I find it hard to just guess by ratings or description of taste what to choose next and am stagnating buying the same ones I like again.
My current favourites include AH Riise Non Plus Ultra Very Rare, Zacapa XO, Flor de Cana 25, Zacapa 23, Kirk and Sweeney 23, Brugal Leyenda (pretty much in this order). With the exception of the Flor de Cana these are all smash-in-the-face-sweet and creamy, round, aromatic drinks and not too fruity, but with chocolate, leather, oak, cocoa, caramel or vanilla.
I would love a suggestion from the more veteran drinkers. Maybe not exceeding ~120€ a bottle.
I would try El Dorado 12 and 15, they are still sweet but more heavy. This would be the right direction.
Or you can go for Pussers Blue Label to get an idea of english style rums.
Not a veteran but let's see it I can help. If you like Zacapa then you might also like Diplomatico. Their basic range (reserva exclusiva) is very affordable and I think also some of their "single vintage" range should be within your price limit. Have you already tried Dictador rums?
Vomi’s advice to test Demerara rum is not a bad one if you’re interested to develop your rum drinking.
When I was in your position I chose to go on to more demanding Spanish styled rums. So I went on to Cuban rum.
If you want to try more of the sweet style I suggest that you taste my favorites within them, Ron Zafra or Malecon Rare Proof. The latter has a rather high ABV, around 50%, which balance the sweetness in a good way.

Oh, I actually forgot to list Diplomatico and El Dorado 15, which are my standard cocktail rums. So those suggestions fit well. :)
Pussers Blue Label I have not tried yet, Dictador 20 is on my shopping list.
I will look into Zafra and Malecon. I also like that they do come in "plain" blottles. :)
I agrees what vomi and Stefan says. Next step could be some demerara style rum. I bought the Rum Nation Guyana 10 years, it´s truly a nice sipper. But also what Stefan said about the Rum Maelcon rare proof, also a great sipper. Just got the Doorley´s 14 (from Foursquare) home too, my oo my what a rum :D
