Tastes and flavours.

It's very nice to be a member of this Forum. The Participants are real rum connoisseurs. I am full of admiration for your tasting and taste skills. For me, simply, it's just that something is tasty or not. After a few tastings, I prefer sweet, heavy and aromatic rums. I wish you a pleasant taste experience.

I agree, it is amazing how some people can pick out such incredibly specific flavours. Sometimes it’s so specific I find it hard to believe, but that may be my own jealousy as my palate is not that great comparatively. Either way, rum is a very fun drink to enjoy. It is always exciting and there seems to be an endless supply of new rums to try. Cheers to the spirit with the most spirit! (At least in my books)

I realized that it is much easier to analyze flavors in a back-to-back comparison. I think I will have a reference set of several characteristic rums I know well and drink them for a benchmark while evaluating a new one. Without reference I find it especially difficult to state the intensity of the flavors.

The best form for tasting.

I think it's a kind of training, with rum and with the different pure scenes and aromas. The more you taste rum the more your tastebuds learn and can get some more differ aromas. To use an aroma wheel can be very useful. And your have to listen carefully, every good rum tells you a story.

I hope I can develop a better pallet as time goes on. I, too, only recognize certain tasting notes. Cheers!

Google "Paladar rum bible." They have over 100 rums on hand. The Bible has the rum wheel to see the different flavor panels.

I am always intrigued by the commenatry on flavors. It is sweet or spicy, good or bad in my book. I have had some really expensive rums and I am still apparently clueless in this department.

I have to say that using the rumx app is a big help while tasting a rum. hope admin doe's not kick me for that comment ; P ... love rumratings :D
