I love the comments on all the rums but people have different tastes than others I treat rum as a party drink and after dinner drink if some people treat rum like whisky they should drink whisky it’s from the fun islands so it’s a fun drink not to be taken too seriously

Why not both? Rum's main advantage, is diversity. Pretty much everything goes with rum and there is a "correct" rum for every occasion, let alone for every taste! I used to down Morgan's back in the day, being none the wiser about real treasures. Likewise, many people gulp away at sugarbombs and hey, since they like/enjoy those, kudos to them! But rum can be as serious as any and every serious drink, if not more and way better. It can also substitute for all other drinks in the market and given the "right" brand/product, it can also potentially be superior to them, even (i'll gladly pick even white rum up, which i don't even like, instead of vodka or gin).

Compared to whisky, rum seems richer in taste and aroma to me. I understand your point but I prefer thinking out of the box, I can also use whisky for cocktails and "fun" and sip rums. It's all personal, rum doesn't have to be any worse than whisky here.

Would it make sense to drink a 30 year old Demerara or "The Last" Caroni as a party drink? Or would you even mix them up for a cocktail? If so, I won't take rum too seriously.

Btw. there is a nice review from someone who has tried drinking Velier Caroni 21 year old in a bar. I don't think that was his best party drink. It's the one with the rating of 3. https://rumratings.com/brands/5315-caroni-21-year

Pitbull: Those cheap rums used as party drinks are the reason for the bad reputation among "rums". The master blenders from all over the Caribbean knew damn well that true rum deserves much better appreciation and so began the quest to create premium rums. Only a fool would waste a premium rum as a party drink. But, if one wants to swill it at a party, pick the cheapest acceptable "rum" and disguise it with all kinds of tropical flavors and juices. True rum punch actually came about because rum was so awful back then.

To each its own. Ive drank a lot of whisky and rum. Both of them have equal capacity to be taken seriously or not. It is true that we all have different tastes and opinions. However, it's discourteous to attempt to project your opinions on others.

No normal people with normal incomes use expensive rum in drinks. Those who do, do it to impress their friends and they are also often newly rich and are the same people who offer red wine in the 1000€ class.
