Hello all - What is a good rum that is in the cuban style, but not from Cuba/I can get in the US. Like many that travel for work, we get used to picking up certain things flying through international airports. My manager likes Dark and Stormy's with a cuban rum. I thought i would give him a bottle of good rum for the holidays to tide him over when travel can happen again. Suggestions?? TIA

Anything from Puerto Rico, Panama or some from Venezuela like Pampero or Santa Teresa.

Matusalem or Vizcaya. Both are from the Dominican Republic. Also, anything from Don Pancho in Panama since he was the master blender in Cuba before getting out of there in the early nineties. Havana Club from Puerto Rico also counts with the original recipes. Long story on those.

What Paul said, especially with Don Pancho rums...which makes sense since he was the Master Blender for Havana Club and the Cuban ministry of liquors prior to leaving Cuba in the early 1990s. Here are the best aged Cuban rums available in the US: Zafra 30 Year (Don Pancho) (rare and expensive) Zafra 21 Year (Don Pancho) Panama Pacific 9 Year (Don Pancho) Panama Pacific 15 Year (Don Pancho) Panama Pacific 23 (Don Pancho) Matusalem 18 Solera Matusalem 15 Solera Cubaney Cana Brava 7 Year (Don Pancho)(discontinued) Don Pancho Origenes 8 Year Don Pancho Origenes 18 Year Don Pancho Origenes 30 Year (rare and expensive) Cana Brava White (discontinued) Selvarey White (Don Pancho)(identical to Havana Club 3 year but more flavorful)
