Hi All, As Christmas is coming near my sister-in-law has asked me what I'd like and my mind has turned to rum. I've got a budget of Β£25 so cant go nuts. Though I am currently loving Red Leg at the moment - I personally love the flavour and I can drink it straight or with a mixer (works for me on both levels!) However its Christmas an I'd like to try something different. Criteria is just these these two 1) has the versatility of being drunk straight or mixed and 2) need that vanilla kick that you get with Red Leg Spiced. Any suggestions would be welcomed and help expand my rum horizons this Christmas!

I love vanilla but a few rums go overboard with it for my taste. Which rums do you like?

forceyboy: Without question, the absolute best vanilla rum that I have ever tried is made by Brinley Gold Shipwreck from the Caribbean island of St.Kitts. No other vanilla rum gets it right like they do. It is also within your budget.

I recommend Brugal anejo, extremely cheap and decent quality with pronounced vanilla and bakery tastes.

forceyboy: From the link that you provided for Angel Becks Wine, it is the third one in the list. Vanilla. As for Brugal Anejo, I have that one rated as my all time worst rum ever. Maybe I got a bad bottle about three years ago, but I refuse to buy anything from Brugal again.

I'll second Paul B's recommendation of the Brinley Gold Vanilla as the best vanilla rum under Β£25. I just poured myself a shot, and it's good. :-) I haven't yet tried the Red Leg.
