I have a plan and a destination. Meaning, an organized wishlist. But my priorities shift, depending on availability, momentary whims and pure luck, while shopping. I usually visit a distillery's website to watch their range of offered products closely, before i can even think, let alone decide. From my latest expeditions, i really liked Doorly's XO and was mindblown by RL Seale 10yr. Problem is, i cannot seem to find a webpage of this great distillery, one that shows their range, that is. Do they even have one, in the first place? That's my main issue. Like how i first visit a bar and the first thing i order, is their menu! And i have some specific questions. Before i fire them, i am absolutely interested in the stable releases, not the special/expired ones. Let's start with the easiest. Other than R.L. Seale's 10yr, is there any other product bearing Seale's name directly, or is it one of a kind? Then, Doorly's. What is the oldest in that range? And is 12 better or the 14? Finally, Foursquare. I need to go through their merchandise and only the stable releases, at that. Other than that, feel free to suggest me YOUR favorite, with one condition only; not being a special/limited/timed release! Which one would you recommend to me, as a great treat?

I would start with the 8y old. The flavors are bright, the wood is young and there is a little bit banana in the taste. Then the XO version with 43%. It's much more woody with orange flavor and a lack of other fruit flavors. The tannis are a little bit dominant because of that. Then Doorly's 14, the best one from the Doorly's standard range. It's smooth, but with darker and saturated flavors like cherries and plums. 14y Foursquare rums are the best in my opinion. Also in the exceptional casks range. I would choose Doorly's 14 and Empery from the exceptional casks. Empery has a sherry finish, this adds other flavors to the rum, like gum. It's different from the others because of that. Pirate: Most fans of Richard Seale rums seem to forget about Alleyne Arthur's Special Barbados Rum. Don't let the low price of $13 US fool you into not trying it. I have a special love for it because I was seriously injured in Las Vegas almost two years ago and this rum was the pain killer that I desperately needed. It is a great mixer, but can also be sipped neat if low on funds. I also prefer Doorly's XO from the entire line. I agree with you in that a rum must be able to be easily replaced in the future.

Nice! So, is there a Foursquare official website, presenting their range, like most Distilleries do?

It seems they have no official website. https://m.facebook.com/rlsealeltd/ There is a link to a catalog, but it's not something I expected. They sell to importers, I don't think they care much about a website.

Must check out “Alleyne Arthur's Special Barbados Rum”, if it’s available in Europe. I think that the “R.L. Seale’s” is the best value for money in their range. It’s possible to find just around €30. Next best value for money is the “Sixty Six Family Reserve 12yo” and the “Doorly’s 12yo” which both is possible to find around €36. The “Foursquare” range also includes “The Real McCoy” not mentioned yet and also some of the “St. Nicholas Abbey” rums that’s produced by “Foursquare” for “St. Nicholas Abbey”. Both are fantastic rums, but especially “St. Nicholas Abbey” are playing in an different price range while “The Real McCoy” can be found around €50. Picture: My Seale’s/Foursquare shelf by moment.

@Stefan Mmm, nice! I am interested in Rum Sixty Six 12yr, but the Cask Strength! The Doorly's 14 also looks promising and has a nice, high %. Real McCoy and St. Nicholas Abbey, i need to check up on them both; have heard things, but never seen such a product in my locale. The Special Barbados Rum is great at that price, but i seriously doubt if it exists in the vendors i frequent. Seale i got for 48 euros and luckily, is the "Export Proof", at 46% (great stuff)! Unfortunately, nobody brings Clement XO and since you revere it so much, i was really itching to taste...

Pirate, all I seem to be buying these days is Foursquare rum. The exceptional cask series are flat out stunning, but somewhat limited. You can’t go wrong with any o them. The Real McCoy series are all excellent as well as the RL Seale’s 10 year. Honestly, he’s my favorite distiller at the moment. So many options and more on the way. As I said you can’t go wrong.

In general the best Foursquares is those with Velier. Triptych or Destino. But they are rare to find. You can go for any Foursquare exceptional cask series. The FS 2008 or Nobiliary is a bit better than the rest, but they are all good.
