In my country, everything is overtaxed to death. I understand the basics of economy (supply and demand, inflation) and i know that drinking is an expensive hobby. But the anomalies i sometimes come across, often leave me speechless. Let's give an example. Appleton 21! Without sales, discounts etc, how much does it usually cost in places like UK or USA? Here, most shops sell it for no less than 136 euros (!), which is more expensive as a currency than good old dollar. And the shop i got it from, gave it out to me for exactly 87 euros! Which means, others sell it almost double price! I know that in our system, vendors are free to set prices for their merchandise, but how is such a huge gap justified? What about healthy competition and spirit-vendors "lobbying"? Or is it something that i missed? Please, give me the "average" price of this product in other locales and if you are trading-savvy, offer an explanation for the phenomenon, if you can?

I would buy Appleton 21 for 73.5€ here: https://www.onlineshop-helgoland.de/spirituosen/art/rum/appleton-estate-21-jahre-0-75-liter-43-vol..php I like this shop, they have very good prices. I usually buy there 3 or 6 bottles at once. I don't know why there is such a good supply with alcohol in Germany, but we also have many small independent bottlers and importers that offer rum.

in Sweden an Appleton 21 costs € 127.50. I have created an excel sheet where I keep track of the approximately 200 most interesting varieties with the five cheapest online shops in EU, which I check when it is time to replenish my stock. When it comes to Appleton 21 the cheapest prices in Europe is found in Italy where you can find it below € 70 online. The shipping costs will be quite high, however, which is why you should shop quite a lot when you place your order to reduce the shipping cost per bottle.

In Poland it costs between 100 and 120 EUR. You can rarely see such bottle in the traditional shops, I usually buy online.

Thank you for your answers. Well, Steffan here actually shed light into the case. On the bottle's back, it says something about Italy, specifically St. Giovanni or something like that. Makes sense, then; they bought it for 71 and sold it to me for 87... While others give it away at 136 euros! Nice catch!

Where I am in SE LA, Appleton 21 goes for $121 US non-negotiable. In my nearly 3 years on this site, I have spent about $11K just to get my reviews in. My repeat purchases cost even more than that, which is what this site hopes to achieve for all of us. In the grand scheme of things, the price of one bottle does not matter at all.

I already got the bottle, sipped, rated, etc. My issue is resolved and that was the astronomic differences in price, even in the very same city. It was imported from Italy, indeed. Please people, don't fight! And paul, i am neither a professional nor a bartender, i am able but not very rich, so i have to play smart, compare and contrast. Buying this at 87 allowed me to grab 2 more bottles of rum! Cheers!

You guys always amuse me! For this rainy Thanksgiving, I just had to do something different, since I have always cursed the pilgrims for choosing turkey for the feast. I chose a bottle of champagne instead of rum. Really getting into rum has also made me become a better cook. As I precisely measured the Caribbean spices to my dish, I seriously doubted that anyone could identify the tasting notes. This is why I always ignore tasting notes that come from some very wild imaginations. Those are like The Sleeping Giant on the island of Kauai. What were they smoking to name that rock formation as such?

I'm looking for Appleton 25 yo Joy, can you recommend a place to buy? What would a reasonable price be?

Joy costs often around 300€. For me it's too expensive for 45% abv. I would prefer cask strength for this price. https://www.spirituosen-superbillig.com/Appleton-Estate-Joy-Anniversary-Blend-25-Jahre-07-Liter-45-Vol.html There is also the Appleton hearts collection from Velier, 1995 and 1994 are each 240€, unfortunately there is only 1999 left. https://www.whisky.fr/en/appleton-21-ans-1999-hearts-collection.html What about the 21 for a really good price? https://www.vino75.com/de/dettaglio/aged-21-years-jamaica-rum-appleton.html

Yes, it's a good rum and the price is fair. It's not a problem to buy it in Germany for that price. https://www.rumpiraten.de/appleton-estate-21-jahre I have also two bottles of it. One is for drinking, the other one is still sealed. In case anyone didn't notice, Zacapa raised prices on XO and Royal.

It was posted here before. I got "Appleton 21" at vino.com in Italy. The first time for around 60€. The second time i got a 10% voucher with the first order so i paid even less. Right now it is at 72,50 € and sold out. For me 65€ would be a real good buy. Appleton Joy is really hard to find though. I managed to purchase 2 Bottles for around 400€ each. You can consider yourself very lucky if you find it anywhere in a regular store. I found two old bottles of appleton 21 from 2007 i the "big-market.de" located in Berlin for 90€ and purchased them right away. It is a real cool store with a good selection, world wide shipping and some rarities.

It was risky to order from vino.com, they had the worst packaging I have ever seen. I got two bottles and both lids were damaged. Luckily the bottle wasn't broken. I will not order there again.

@vomi Can confirm. Packaging of vino.com is not sufficient. One Bottle cylinder was kind of damaged...
