These six white rums can be sipped neat or used in your favorite drink. Since rhum agricoles and cachacas are in a different class, they were ruled out. Selvarey White Cana Brava 3 Year Old Plantation Artisinal 3-Stars Foursquare Probitas Vizcaya Cristal Marsh House

Paul, I havenโ€™t tasted any of those you suggest. If I disqualify Agricole I can add Diplomatico Planas, Angostura 3yo & English Harbour 3yo but the last one is a borderline case. If I include Agricole is all of those I have tasted pretty good to sip neat. Best so far of the Agricole Blanc tasted is Bielle 59% and Montebello 50%. Besides that the Agricole Blanc is OK to sip neat, I believe they are outstanding as mixers.

Stefan: The Diplomatico Planas is my seventh ranked white rum. Since I don't really recall it qualifying as a neat sipper, I left it off of my list. So if you can't get a hold of any of my six recommended ones, that Diplomatico Planas will suffice. Agricoles and cachacas are more related to each other than white rums. It all has to do with the juice of origin: cane juice or molasses.

I have another white sipper for you Paul B; Conde de Cuba 3yo. I still have to review it and it is a typical summer rum, best served slightly chilled (but not at fridge temperature). Elegant with a rather strong orange peel and (for a young, white column still rum) with a rather long finish.

Thank you for sharing my article, although agricole being dismissed means only Rum Bar Silver is eligible. I'd also recommend Doorly's 3 YO (the 47% ABV one if possible) Montanya Platino Savanna HERR (a rarity but it's worth it if it can be found) El Dorado 3 YO

Many of the other white rums suggested here cannot even be purchased in the USA for political reasons (Cuban embargo). Also, I have rated 33 white rums distilled from molasses and these six are the only ones that I would sip neat. As mentioned earlier, Diplomatico Planas almost made it to my list of recommendations. Usually, one can judge an excellent white rum as the basis for aged rums. This is not so in this case. At least one of them is actually an aged rum with the color removed by filtration. No other aged rums came from these six. Go figure!

Savanna HERR is hard stuff, but very unique. I think the most can not sip it neat. It's the only one white rum in my bar.

At the moment, I'm in love the withe high-ester-monsters from Habitation Velier. - Savanna HERR, ester 499.9 gr/hlpa, 62.5 % vol. extraordinary, outstanding and completely insane, a rum for explorers and lover of slightly different tasting things. - Long Pond STC*E, ester 674 gr/hlpa, 62.5 % vol. nice an strong, full of deep dark flavours. - Hampden LROK, ester 350 gr/hlpa, 62.5 % vol. beautiful old fashioned rum experience. - Forsyths WP 502, ester 502 gr/hlpa, 57 % vol. brutal aroma monster to get tamed. - Forsyths white WPE, ester 597 gr/hlpa. 57 % vol. just in the glass for rating.... @vomi1011: and yes, I sip them neat ;-) (very little sips ,sometime just a drop roll over the tongue and for sure a glass of water besides) and you really done a nice rating for the HERR 57 (and all others too) @Paul B: unfortunately you sort the Agricoles out, I think about the delicious Clairin from Haiti or the power of a Neisson rhum.........

Rene: There is a reason that I omitted the clairins, agricoles, and cachacas from my list. All of those are distilled from cane juice. The six that I have listed are all distilled from molasses, which is much cheaper to produce their rum And for those in Europe who cannot find Foursquare Probitas, it goes by a different name over there. It is called Foursquare Velier. Same rum, different name for marketing purposes.. I mention this in my review here filed under Probitas White.

@Paul B I don't mind if rum is made of pure sugarcane juice, sugar cane honey or molasses. Or is it fermented 72 hours or 3 months. For me, every rum straight from the pot/column is white rum, maybe stored a few months in steel tanks. I rather would sort out the filtered rum like 3-Star or Dictator Claro 100. But yes, a sorting by kind of production and material makes sense and makes the things more selective.

Rene: If one did not know the source of distillate and compared any of my six recommended white rums to any clairin, agricole, or cachaca, they would easily see that these three are just SO DIFFERENT. They only thing they all have in common is their pale color. And as I stated earlier in my post, none of these six went on to be used for aging premium rums. They are all in a class by themselves. Yes, the Plantation 3-star is really a dark rum with the color filtered out and then having sugar added, but it is still a damn good white rum that can be sipped neat. As for gold mixers, they are white rums with a minimal aging time and often having color added. Those are really white rums in disguise. Most also have no added sugar.

I must say that the interesting thing in this case is actually if itโ€™s aged or not. The Diplomatico Planas is aged for 6 years and the Bielle 59 isnโ€™t a aged at all. So thatโ€™s what interesting in my point of view, not the colur or if it comes from molasses, cane syrup or cane juice.

Thatโ€™s the point: All spirits made from sugarcane are so different, as long they are properly handcrafted. Industrial mass-production mostly tastes the same, like Ba.... and many cheap more. That's the way who makes the rum journey so interesting and you stay curios.. The Velier rums I mentioned before are all molasses rum and extremely different.
