Brugal

Having been a Rum drinker for many years it amazes me that people drink Brugal which I can only describe as rubbish . Compared to the mount gays of this world . Have you ever drunk it neat it's awful add coke and it marginally better but not by much I can only assume it's people with little or no taste that purchase it . Compare it to Appletons or Mount Gay and you would never drink it again. It's dire..

Brugal 1888 has a 7.8 average and a bunch of people with many ratings have rated it 8-9. Have you tried it? A few I've had have more of a grassy taste, which I don't tend to like but some prefer to the sweet/molasses of many rums

Brugal 1888. Bought a bottle for Men's Rum Tasting Night. It didn't fare well. One person really liked it. I let him have it to take home. No more! (of it for me)

Just picked up a bottle of Brugal 1888. I plan on sampling it in the future and presenting my thoughts on Rum Ratings.

To add my two cents worth...I felt Brugal Anejo is a pretty decent rum while Brugal Extra Viejo is substandard.

The 1888 is fine. Sweet and a little light in the finish, but nothing harsh or unpleasant. Much better than the Extra Viejo.

The 1888 is the best that Brugal has to offer in Canada. If presented with Brugal I am looking for something to mix it with. It's a high end mixing rum to me, and like others have noted, not that good as a sipping rum. At $70 a bottle in Canada most of the Appleton rums are a better rum at half the price.

I'd take the Brugal 1888 over a Mount Gay Black Barrel any day (though maybe not a fair comparison since the MGBB is a bit cheaper). Haven't tried any other Brugals.
