Would half marks be a good idea? I feel like there’s a big difference between a 7/10 and an 8/10. Is that even doable? Would it mess with existing scores?

Would also love to see half marks or decimals. Would be a great addition!

Funny enough I just asked making half marks a premium feature last week. He laughed and in essence said “isn’t 10 enough”... but based on this thread I’m guessing it would be helpful to have a little more granularity :) Might it push the 3 of you over the line to go premium? If so, I would prioritize it!

I’m also positive to half marks. That will give 19 or 20 different grades depending on if you start with 0,5 or 1. I think that’s enough, a use of all tenths gives 90 or 100 grades which I think is too much.

As it is difficult for me to convert my rating to numbers, I find the texts like "recommendable to most" very useful. Please remember to update them for half marks.

I have my own solution for half marks, which is a spreadsheet ranking all of the rums that I have rated. I now have so many with a 6 rating that I would have to rate them from 6.01 to 6.99. What we have now with 10 ratings is simple enough. It is my own responsibility to go into such further detail. I also never consider the bottle or price in my rating, but will mention it for everyone's sake if it is unusual. And quite often, I have changed my rating weeks later as the rum slowly disappears in the bottle. If it works, don't fix it!

vomi1011: I am already a premium member and what you have suggested will not improve upon the system that I already have in place. I still refuse to go with decimal ratings. The simple rating system on this site gets one in the ballpark. Then it is up to each one's own book keeping system to rank the ones within each rating.

The decimals should not affect the presentation of this site. Instead, the decimals should offer a way to scale own ratings more precisely. Therefore this would be a premium feature. A rum with 9.4 points is far better than one with 8.6 points. At the moment, however, it looks like both are equally good. I now use a scale of up to 100 points in my rating text. You also mentioned, that you have your own excel list. I think if this rating system would fit perfectly, you wouldn't use this list anymore.

For decimals or half marks I would also consider going premium. Would be a nice upgrade. Still feel the real potential of a more nuanced rating system would be most beneficial if the feature where available for the entire community, thus better highlighting the collective appreciation of the best rum. That said I do understand it's sometime a necessity having features such as this reserved for premium memberships. Cheers

My spreadsheet is not just for ranking my rums. I also use it to keep track of added sugar, price, country, classification, date opened, and other bottles on hand. Most of what you see in my "cabinet" is long gone. I only like to keep about two dozen bottles on hand. Keeping track of the date opened goes back to when I started on here with sweetened rums that degraded in flavor after only one month. So even if half marks were included on this site, it would do me no good at all. Updating my spreadsheet is a piece of cake compared to the work that I did before I retired five years ago.
