Hey all; I have a friend going to Jamaica spring 2019 and she has offered to bring me back some rum. I was wondering what a good local rum would be to pick get? And by local I mean one that is typically not found at a duty free. My preference is usually darker rums at navy strength ABV. Thanks in advance for the help. Cheers.

Appletons rules the roost in Jamaica. Do some research here as far as rating and type. If she is willing to go to the distillery, there may be some select releases available there only, but be prepared to pay $$$. I picked up a Master Distillers select blend (only available at Appletons) for $275 US back in '13. Nice case, still have not opened.

Thanks for the reply Tony. It was the same way back in '07 when the missus and I were on a cruise and stopped in Negril. I actually bought a bottle of Mt Gay Tricentennial in this little hole in the wall shop just outside the tourist area.....maybe will just ask for an Appleton's 12 year.
