Hello, I have bought a bottle of Plantation 3 stars white rum and it has some sediment in it (floating fragments - white flakes are easy noticed) The bottle is new and I haven’t opened it yet. Is it normal? Is it safe to drink?

It can be many things - added sugar that came out of the solution, glycerol, fragments of the cork (sometimes, the bottler uses artificial cork that is not resistant to alcohol and dissolves on contact), or other impurities from poorly controlled bottling process. Rum should not contain any such thing, so I would advise to return the bottles - I did it once with an expensive bottle containing cork fragments, and they replaced it without problems.

That's right, why should charcoal filtration left some white particles ? I check my Dictador "100 months claro" for flakes and yes, he has some. And this Dictador is really heavy filtered. Maybe the water for "to cut down the alcohol level" hade some lime or some other Minerals they create this Tiny flakes ???

Odd considering don’t the Plantation folks say they filter their 3-year through charcoal a few times?

Usually, it means that it has not been chill filtered, a process which can strip away flavors. Generally regarded as a good thing.

Hi Romarrio, I don't know what it is, probably something from the filtration, but I have the same tiny flakes in the bottle too. It's the Plantation "cigar box" bottling. I don't think it's dangerous, I'm still alive ! :-)
