So far, R.L. Seale's 10-year is my favorite rum. I find it quite complex, yet it's smooth. It has no added sugar, yet it's sweet enough. And it doesn't break the bank. So, what other rums out there are smooth, complex, not too expensive, and don't have any flavor additives?

Sorry so late to reply, I haven't been on this site nearly as much lately. I am curious how much Seales 10 yr is where you are? It is an amazing bargain in the US at around $22. Mount Gay Extra Old is another rum that is very good and not sweetened at all. Not quite as cheap but still can be found around $35-40 here in the US. Appleton 12 yr is one of the gold standards in the funky dry Jamaican style. I quite like the lower offerings from El Dorado, the 5 and 8 year which are not nearly as sweet as the 12 and 15 yr but still have much of that robust Demeraran flavor. They have 9-12 g/ltr of added sugar compared to 30-45 for the more aged versions. I can find then below $15 a bottle at some places here in the US at which price they are outstanding for mixing, but I also like to sip them.

Yep, I concur on Mount Gay Extra Old. I found it to be very similar, but just a touch less complex. I find Appleton 12 a great mixer, but just a touch harsh on the finish. RL Seale's 10 is TWD1,700.

In the US it is exclusive to Total Wine & More. I don't know about elsewhere.
