Hello everyone, I've been a fan of rum for some time but normally I drink it mixed and so have never really been very picky. Lately however I've recently started looking for some good sipping rums that are at a reasonable price point but I have a certain flavor/preference that I like. I think I'm definitely not looking for what rum connoisseurs would consider good. That being said, I like rums that are very dark, spicy, taste almost sweet, or heavy molasses flavor. I do not like anything that tastes like whiskey/cognac,etc. I recently tried Kaniche xo as a recommendation from the guy at total wine and I do not care for it at all. I picked up some Goslings but could only stand that mixed. I've tried tapping house dark rum recently as well and that is better but still not what I'm looking for. Siesta key spiced rum was nearer what I'm looking for but tasted like the molasses was burnt. I've tried all the more common rums, Captain morgan, Bacardi, Kraken, sailor jerrys, and many more. Those are all fine mixed but not to drink straight. Now for what rums I prefer, I kinda like Cruzan black strap molasses and Tattoo (captain morgan). Not what anyone would probably consider a typical sipping rum right? Now you know my dilema. If anyone likes these two rums and could direct me to others that are similar in flavor, I would appreciate it.

Sailor Jerry is an inexpensive rum that may be to your taste. Brugal Anjeo would be worth trying but it's not as heavy or molasses based.

Ralph Waldo Emerson couldn't have said it better that "all life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better." Get out there and discover for yourself....recommendations can not guarantee success when subjective opinions are concerned. Enjoy the journey.
