Serious improvement needed
As a mixer this rum is great for mai tai, piña colada, and more. As a standalone supper, it doesn't have a lot of flavor and is a bit light.
Had a rum tasting on a sunny afternoon, because why not. Trader Vics Spiced Rum bottle and label design is very lame and boring. Light amber color. Alcohol and artificial vanilla to the nose and palate. Awful burn at the end. Mix it with Coke and down it goes.
It reminds be of a sweet white wine, like a Riesling. The fruitiness doesn't sit quite right neat, but mixes okay into a rum and coke. Would also mix well into a fruity cocktail like a rum punch or a mai tai.
I have a bottle of this that I only use in tiki drinks, it's exceptional at blending which essentially means it's unexceptional at all else.
All I got when I opened this bottle was vanilla. After tasting it, I am convinced it is a clear rum with vanilla and Carmel color added. It seems like there is no viscosity to this rum so I would guess water is added also. Not really very good at all.
