This rum is made from sugar cane grown outside of Brunswick, Georgia on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean about 40 minutes north of Florida. The sugar cane is then crushed and boiled down to syrup onsite at the coastal facility and then transported about 220 miles away to Richland where it is then fermented and distilled on a copper pot still. What comes next to me is unclear. The bottle says that it is “*Unaged*, Unaltered, and Ulfiltered” yet other various websites claim that it is “rested” for 60 days in new, virgin American oak barrels. Is that considered aging? I don’t know. In any case the rum is clear as water and I detect no influence of oak anywhere. It is then bottled at 43% ABV.

In pretty much every respect this is in actuality somewhere between a Rhum Agricole and a Clairin. Spoilers, but it drinks a lot like a Clairin, specifically like 2018 Sajous.

Taking it on the nose from the Glencairn, I get fresh potent Sugar Cane Stalk, Green Olives, and Confectioners Sugar. Swirling in the background I get Wilmers Glue (the white pasty stuff from Kindergarten) and Fresh Cut Grass. It is very much in the wheel house of an unaged Rhum Agricole

Taking a sip I get a heavy dose of Confectioners Sugar followed immediately by raw Sugar Cane Stalk, Capers, and Fenugreek. It’s quite vegetal but in a slightly different way.

After this rum leaves the mouth at first it is fairly neutral with just a slight hint of Chalk. However, over time, I get just the faintest hint of rotting vegetation. A long time after I set the glass down roasted pumpkin seed remains.

This is a pretty interesting dram despite the lower proof comparative to higher ABV Rhum Agricoles. Taken alone it is interesting and different and I can definitely see what they are going for.

But brother, let me extoll to you the virtues of this rum in a Ti Punch. Mixed with lime and simple syrup and perhaps a small ice cube this rum explodes to life in a way I haven’t experienced since Clairin Sajous 2018. Despite the comparatively lower ABV, this rum becomes extraordinarily expressive with lime, sugar, and an ice cube. This reminds me a great deal of 2018 Clairin Sajous. It becomes outright addictive with lime and sugar

So while this might be just a decently interesting sipping rum, you will not regret putting this on your bar for Ti Punches and Daiquiris. It goes from interesting to “wow!” with lime and sugar. While it may not be from an exotic Caribbean locale, it is an excellent and nuanced cane syrup rum, better than most unaged Agricoles and right up there in Clairin territory. This is really quite good, a very much recommendable if you are looking for a solid unaged Agricole for your bar/collection.
