Flawed with a glimmer of hope
Most of these reviews hit the nail on the head - it’s got more alcohol on the nose and palate than the blanc, even though it’s the same proof. I cannot speak to why this may be, but is does come off stronger and with less complex agricole notes than its younger counterpart.
On the other hand, it does carry a nice truffle oil flavor, perhaps from the barreling, which reminds me a touch of Paranubes. Less olivey and briny of course.
Overall decent for a paille agricole, since these are not as commonly in the US, but not at the top of my list.
Visited the Saint James Distillery while vacationing in Martinique. Bought a bottle of Saint James Rhum Paille from the distillery for EUR 13. Bright amber color. Nice bottle and label design. Dry Rhum Agricole flavors like grass and floral notes followed with artificial flavors and strong oak to the nose and palate. Quite a strong burn at the end being so dry. Rhum Agricole lovers can easily add 2 points to my score.
Design : bouteille carrée St James, plutôt sympa.
Nez : alcool
