This absolutely have the funk the Jamaican rums are famous for. Strong taste and smell, fruity and of burnt sugar and caramel. While I have learned that I am really bad at distinguishing different fruits from each other in these kinds of drinks and rums, this definitely has a fruity aroma compared to most other rums I have tasted. I like it alot. The 57% makes it best on the rocks, which I enjoy.
This rum is good is so many ways. First, since it's full of funk, it's a great rum to add depth to cocktails. Next, on its own it's a pretty good sipper even you're a fan of the high ester. And lastly you can't be the value for how inexpensive it is compared to so many other rums.
This is the rum if you would like to start exploring jamaican rum. It's powerfull, full of flavour yeat fruity with sweet vanilla notes.
Some good funk mixability potential, makes one hell of a hurricane. Unfortunately it's a bit frisky to be had neat, and if you add water it gets really bitter really fast.
Nose: overripe tropical fruit, especially pineapple and mango.
Taste: again tropical fruit, tobacco, burnt butter, chewing gum and kimchi. Don't fact check me on that.
After taste: medium, tropical fruit and tobacco.
TLDR: pineapple left in the fridge for a couple of months.
And yes, the bottle is sexy.
there is no cheaper ticket. This one will please mixers and sippers the same.
For me, who does not like mixed drinks that much, it was shocking how fast I went through this bottle with neat pours.
This is a bottle I will replace for sure.
Definite ethanol if you go in too deep on the nose. I get vanilla and faint cherry otherwise. On the second sip, caramel and vanilla come through mostly. Thicker mouth feel with a mild burn going down. Can't wait to mix with this one!
I was very hesitant to try this authentic Jamaican rum for a long time because of some of the frightening descriptions in these reviews. This is NOT a rum for beginners and I am certainly not a beginner. So I plunked down $27 US for my bottle of this and brought it home today. It is blended in the UK, which has long ties to Jamaica. You can read the whole story on the back of the bottle.
When I broke the plastic seal around the cork, I was afraid to open it for fear of some awful smells. Instead, it was anything but that. My first pour was neat in the snifter. Aromas of exotic tropical fruits greeted me. On the palate was mild hogo and lots of burn. Hey, it's only 114 proof, so what can you expect? Adding a few ice cubes swapped out the burn for lots of pleasant hogo flavors. This is the way to drink it, on the rocks. Then I tried one of the drinks on the back of the label called Million. A million of what? Stupid name, but I tried it with measurements given to the nearest quarter of an ounce for this rum, lemon juice, simple syrup, and Angostura Bitters. Gosh, that is a damn good drink, but I would rather savor mine on the rocks and stick with no added sugars. Whomever said that dry rums are boring has obviously not tried this one. This one can also put any Mai Tai over the top!
Traditional jamaican navy strength rum 57%abv.
Pure plummer and wedderburn marque pot still distillate, so the funk is there but not too much.
Rumor has it that this is Hampden estate rum.
Nose: strong dunder and esters, molasses, toasted butter, brine
Taste: oh some more of that lovely pungent molasses dunder taste, strong toasted butter and brine also caramel, i think im in love with this rum.
Finish: Dry and some oak in the end. Has some kick( thanks to 57 abv) but no ethanol taste.
The dry taste of dunder, butter and bit of oak lingers for a long time, i like that.
Overall: Delicious honest traditional jamaican rum that has very strong punching esters kicking through but with beautiful molasses butter caramel taste too.
Also bottled at higher abv 57% which is always a good thing and greatly appreciated.
Mixability is also great so i have to give extra points for that.
Makes beautiful balanced navy grogs and also works magic in most of the tiki cocktails.
No added sugar like most jamaicans, probably has caramel colour for color consistency but i dont mind about that.
Drinking this straight is like bare knuckle boxing Mike Tyson, strong fierce, and a heavy weight champ in it's category.
This Jamaican pot still rum is full of flavor and character, but not too be taken lightly. Best drunk mixed or diluted on the rocks
a bit bitter..and it got ATTITUDE

The smell is rich, sugary, heavy molasses.
"It leaves a long lasting tingle on the tongue and in the roof of your mouth. ."

Smooth mouth feel with short burn in the throat before a warm lingering finish. FUNK, butter, brown sugar, and molasses flavors, followed by oak and vanilla on the finish. A must have in any collection, even if just for a conversation starter with another rum lover.
