I finally got my hands on a bottle of this overproof rum. Not quite 151 proof, but bottled at 137 proof, the same amount of knots that qualifies a hurricane to become a very destructive Category 5. Some of the profits from the sale of this rum will go to help rebuild communities in the USVI and elsewhere in the USA that have been destroyed by major hurricanes.

Enough for the good cause, so how does it taste? Drinking neat is not recommended at all. However, adding 2-3 ice cubes to the snifter mellows out the burn while bringing out the island flavors. Not quite as good as their Single Barrel, but awfully close. The best way to test any overproof is to water it down and see if the flavor holds up. This one does very well.

How to use it? It is light amber in color, so it will not serve well as a dark Tiki topper. I would suggest one to use their imagination to make a great rum punch. Because of the good flavor hiding under the burn, it probably could not ruin any drink.

Update April 15, 2020: I finally found the best use for this rum as a throat cleaner during the social distancing required during the COVID-19 virus pandemic. Where I live, the risk for going out is fairly low at about 1 in every 286 people having tested positive. But when I do go out and return home, I pour a half ounce of this overproof rum into the snifter. I sniff the vapors to kill any virus molecules that may have penetrated my nostrils. Notice that I did not refer to this part as "aroma". Then it is two straight swallows of this rum to burn out any germs that may have gotten into my throat. People are so obsessed with hand cleaner that it cannot be found anywhere. Am I the only one who thought of throat cleaner? I hope not. I have been doing this for the past month and this bottle is almost gone at four months old. A bottle of Don Q 151 is next for when this hard to find rum finally runs out. And how do I know that this works? Early on in the pandemic, I woke up one morning with cold like symptoms. I drank a straight shot of this followed by a TBS full of straight jalapeno peppers. All symptoms were immediately gone! I was onto something and I am still safe after a month of mostly staying at home. Burn those germs out! Stay safe! And resist the urge to dip into your rum collection during these trying times.

Not too much on the nose. Burns a LOT! Not recommended.

Overwhelming nail polish nose that I couldn't get past. It overwhelms the little flavor that is present. I can see it being used as fuel to fire up a volcano bowl, but I won't be putting in my tiki drinks. Down the drain it went.

I've been using this in place of "Puerto Rican 151" in cocktails that call for it and it does what it says on the bottle.

Lovely amber color on the bottle. Strong after shave nose. First moments in the mouth was pleasant. Then the burn kicked in. Wow what a burn. But it is over proofed so... Not bad with Coke though.
