Now this is some good stuff
Let it breath some minutes. The first hit was alcoholic but after a few minutes a beautiful palate of flavours appear.
Aroma: vanilla, backed bananas, bourbon, red wine, later black current and wine zest.
Taste: less sweet than the nose suggests. Spicy, light sweet. Long finish with spices and wine'ish tanins.
So my first experience of foursquare was the Nobilliary - which is amazing and reminded me of Pappy Van Winkle bourbon.
This rum is delicious and so different. A beautiful rich mahogany colour. On the nose I get a varnish and sweetness. Nothing to special here on the nose. However, the taste starts out rich and sweet. Its full bodied and then it gives more, and then the flavours role into a Madeira cake aroma (sponge cake). The flavour really lingers on the finish. This is such an interesting rum that offers so much, and showcases Foursquare's brilliance at drawing out different character from ageing in differing styles of barrels.
Foursquare Sagacity is not 2005! 2005 is a great rum 12 years in an ex bourbon cask at 59% released in 2017. Sargacity is a 12 year rum aged in Bourbon and Madeira barrels at 48%. Released in 2019 and does not hold a candle to 2005. So at 12 years released in 2019 its 2007, which is another great rum similar to 2005. Sargacity is clean smooth and great lingering taste, but not as forward bold and complex as 2005. Check the photo and get your ratings straitened out.
Give this 5 minutes to open up after you pour it, your taste buds will thank you.
Great supper, best neat or with a splash of water to calm the heat.
Sweet, nice aftertaste and mouthfeel. Can't wait to share this with my friends.
Just solid, wonderful wood, grass, vanilla and stonefruit notes off a warm nose that while vaporous of alcohol, still seems easy on the palate given the proof. This is incredibly drinkable, such that I recommend buying two, because when it's gone, you will be begging for more.
As an fan of Foursquare rums the Sagacity is an excelent addition to my collection. Tasting this rum is incredible, full of fruit and a touch of sweetness.
Yet another excellent rum from Foursquare and probably my favourite so far (Dominus, Hereditas, Zinfandel cask blend and Empery are the others I've tried). £47 a bottle and the best rum under 50 quid in the world I reckon. Will be getting more in before people push the price up!
I would give this bottle my highest recommendation. The finish is incredible on this full of fruit and a touch of sweetness. I will need to seek more rums with a madeira finish.
