Many thanks to Joola69 for sharing this with me as part of a rare rum exchange (this is clearly rare, because as of this review Joola69 and I are the only ones to have reviewed this).
Has a nice sweet base that I love. Also smells and tastes of molasses, whiskey, oak, caramel, and butterscotch. Very similar to the Esclavo Sherry cask (but with Speyside whiskey rather than sherry). I normally prefer sherry, but in this case I think I slightly prefer the Speyside whisky.
Rum tasting at home with a good buddy of mine started with Ron Esclavo 12y Speyside Whisky Cask Finish. Nice bottle and label design, very close to the traditional Ron Esclavo 12y concept. Reddish golden color. Strong oak, mild peatiness and plenty of sweet rum flavors to your nose and palate when neat sipped. Short and mildly sweet burn at the end. Whisky lovers can easily add 2 points to my score.
