There's a few 'Caribbean white' rums out on the market like this. This is by far my favorite!
Great for a Hemingway daiquiri in my opinion. This rum will sing loudly while staying balanced in your cocktail. What a great choice!
If you are looking to make a daquiri or other drinks where you want to keep it simple and straightforward, this lets all of your ingredients shine.
This is wonderfully deep and makes an excellent daiquiri. Maggie's Farm has a great line up and this is their magnum opus. This blend tastes like it has 5 or 6 rums in it and has enough depth to make any cocktail sing. Truly superb.
I give a 10 for a very specific use: this mix was formulated with daiquiris in mind. After taste testing 20 different rums over the course of a month or two against this (and trying many more since then), none were quite as good as this blend.
(What is the blend? "The Hidden Harbor build is 60-percent Maggie's Farm white and 20-percent unaged Queen's Share, mixed with a blend of Jamaican, Guyanese, Martinician, Bajan and Trinidadian rums to add fruitier and more fragrant notes to the spirit.")
Now, don't get me wrong: variety is the spice of life. Other rums made daqs that were funkier, sharper, creamier, sweeter, drier, more floral, or interesting in a variety of other ways. Depending on my mood on a given day, I might instead want to get funky with Wray & Nephew, sweet with El Dorado, weird with Batavia Arrack, or anything else... But this just nails balance perfectly. If for some reason I could only have daiquiris made with one rum for the rest of my life, after drying my tears, I'd choose this one.
Interestingly though, although it's also been solid in other cocktails, it is pretty unexceptional straight. Don't drink it straight; that's not what it's for.
This is a proprietary blend made for a tiki bar called hidden harbor, specifically for their daiquiris. It hits the mark perfectly, with strong Jamaican funk up front but balanced by their own white and some other smoother ones as well
