Santa Teresa 1796 rum is produced in Venezuela and aged using the solera system that blends rums aged between 4 and 35 years. Before bottling, the rum is aged for a further year in large French oak casks to marry the blends.
This rum was first created in 1996 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the establishment of the distillery, the Santa Teresa Hacienda.

Good to sip or mix, smooth, this is one of my favorites.
Santa Teresa gives you a very smooth and yet rich flavor! You can drink straight or on the rocks ... it is my first choice for Mojitos. It is well aged using best practices and blending methods with excellent aroma and texture. The entire family of rums provides a variety for different tastes and occasions--especially the "Ron Antiguo"
"Lovers of a deep, rich rum will savor the aromas of caramel, honey, walnut, and oak while flavors of toffee, mocha, and coconut come through cleanly. Those that honor tradition will appreciate the old-school labeling on the bottle and canister."

For same type of solera you can find better options but it worth to try.
The smell is very good to smell caramel and cinnamon, the taste is delicate, slightly spicy. Fine choice.

Výborný rum. Chutná mi dokonce více než rumy Diplomatico. Není tak sladký a ovocný. Jemný rum s chutí mandlí a kakaa.
Es un buen ron pero pense que iba a ser mejor, hace anos solia consumir el Sante Teresa Selecto (botella de pina) y era realmente bueno, creo que ya no se fabrica mas, con esa referencia realmente pense que el 1796 iba a superarlo pero no fue asi.
A bit more pricey but one of the better sippers. Definitely try it.
Don't get me wrong, it's a really good rum. But I'm not sure if it is worth the RRP. That being said, I would never turn it down when offered.

"On the nose there’s a lovely dark profile. Fresh ground coffee, dark chocolate, caramel, vanilla, plums. There are some tropical fruits like pineapple and passion fruit, followed by a slight grassy note. Nutmeg, old leather, tobacco and white pepper. On the palate it goes down so easy. Milk chocolate, vanilla, honey, mango, toffee and cashews. Canned pineapple, blackcurrant, coconut cream and coca cola. The tobacco note is back along with some cinnamon. Not crazy sweet, fairly well balanced and easy going. Cocoa butter and orange marmalade. Towards the end is where you get a bit more oak spices and some alcohol heat. The finish is short with cocoa nibs, some oak tannins and maple syrup."
Has a nice light sweet vanilla note.
"Spicy notes and a oaky lavour are very pleasant and not overpowering."

Nice dark amber color and great smell. Has a nice smooth taste, the only downside is it leaves a lingering burn. I like to sip rum and this one is a nice sipper as long as you are ok with the burn.
