Venezuela | Aged | 40% ABV

Santa Teresa 1796 rum is produced in Venezuela and aged using the solera system that blends rums aged between 4 and 35 years. Before bottling, the rum is aged for a further year in large French oak casks to marry the blends.

This rum was first created in 1996 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the establishment of the distillery, the Santa Teresa Hacienda.

Santa Teresa is right up my alley. This is a deep and satisfying sipping rum. Aromas of cedar and oak and quite a bit of medicinal notes up front. On the dry side which is good for me yet it still speaks rum with candied orange and molasas cookies. The second pour brings brownies and vanilla. But its not even close to being a sugar bomb.
At the $40 mark it's a simple presentation and thats another plus for me. A fancy bottle is fun to look at but it's whats inside that counts and I will happily count out 40 bucks for this nectar. Eye candy not needed.

Tasted this one on holiday, sunny terras with a view on a small creek, on an island in the Mediterranean Sea, not quite the ideal circumstances to be objective but given these circumstances: quite a nice surprise Molasses , oak, hints of vanilla and nutmeg.

Gave this one a try. Not really a fan, I felt it had more of a bourbon feel and finish than an aged rum. Will not try again, but damn straight I'll finish the bottle

Für mich einer der besten Rums.
Vollmundig, würzig, mild und wenig süß.

I've never used 'dry' to describe a rum before, but it fits the bill here. This is very tasty, nice golden color, very light oak, some mild caramel, maybe nutmeg. But ... slightly dry. Not harsh, but a slight alcohol nose, not there to taste though. Good for sipping, I've never mixed it. But I did try with a splash of water, to see if it would open up more. It did, but only slightly. A few more drops, and it washed out. Quite surprising, considering the age (or potential age) of the rum. If you have it on ice, I'd suggest finishing it before the ice melts.

the look of the bottle is a big plus right of the bat. waxed caps are always a big plus. when you open the bottle there isn't a big smell coming from the bottle but you can get some sweet scent. the first sip is very sweet but the sweetness calm down with the next few sips. finaly i found the burn is very smooth.

Smooth, not too sweet and wonderful aroma and taste with a long finish. If you can find it grab a bottle.

Sipper not a mixer imo.

Nice flavor composition using the solera method where numerous aged rums up to 35 years are blended together to create a wonderful sipper from Venezuela. Top of the line in the Santa Teresa line of fine rums, this rum does not disappoint. Meant to be drank neat as their lower priced, younger rums are more suited to being mixed.
