Santa Teresa 1796 rum is produced in Venezuela and aged using the solera system that blends rums aged between 4 and 35 years. Before bottling, the rum is aged for a further year in large French oak casks to marry the blends.

This rum was first created in 1996 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the establishment of the distillery, the Santa Teresa Hacienda.

Märka tydligt att det är en solera, rätt lik zacapa 23. Balanserad men en aning mer spritsmak än vad zacapa har så det drar ner betyget en aning. Billigare men jag köper nog hellre zacapa än denna.

This and Zacapa remain two of my favorite ways to ease in new drinkers. A bit sugary and cloying for me, most of the time, but still a great drinkable glass. Almost the sweet Belgian/Trappist ale of the rum world.

Very few Rums compare & even less for this price range. What a great drop!

To mix it would be sacrilegious. Even hold back the ice if you can resist.

Mild and mellow notes to smell and great tasting notes to match.

Ich habe im Zuge einer 50% Rabatt Aktion zugeschlagen. So kostete eine Flasche mich nur 20€ und ich habe gleich 2 mitgenommen ;) Santa Teresa Rum wird in 2 Column Stills gebrannt, ich erwartete also einen leichten, nicht zu komplexen Rum. Die Lagerung in Limousin-Eiche gibt dem ganzen aber einen tollen Charakter.
In der Nase: Süße Vanille und Karamellnoten, fein eingebundene Eiche, Noten von dunklen Früchten und dunkler Schokolade. Einen hauch Zimt erkenne ich im Hintergrund. Riecht, wie ein guter Rum riechen muss.
Im Mund: Absolut weicher Rum, der Alkohol ist sehr gut eingebunden. Die Aromen, die ich in der Nase schon hatte, kommen auch jetzt durch. Dazu kommen wunderbare Aromen von Toffee, diverse Backaromen sowie etwas Pfeifentabak und Leder. Es ist erstaunlich, wie viele dunkle Fruchtaromen mitschwingen. Da hat die Limousin-Eiche ganze Arbeit geleistet.
Im Abklang: Die Eiche bleibt besonders lange. Dazu Vanille, Karamell und die dunklen Früchte, die von der Eiche getragen werden. Abslut kein alkoholisches brennen, könnte gut ein paar mehr Umdrehungen vertragen.

Es ist nicht der komplexeste Rum, das ist klar. Dennoch ist es ein ganz toller Rum, den man zu jeder Tagesform trinken kann. Ein echter Schmeichler und ein toller Beweis, dass ein Rum keinen zugesetzten Zucker oder Aromen braucht, um zu überzeugen. Super finde ich auch, dass nicht irgendwelche Fabelzahlen drauf stehen. Der älteste Rum ist 25 Jahre alt. Hier wird im echten Solera Verfahren gereift und nicht wie bei anderen nur geblended. Ich kann ihn nur empfehlen :)

Not too many stores carry this brand so when I came across a bottle I grabbed it. This has a fairly high rating so I thought it would be worth the risk. It is just OK. Thats all I can say. At this price point there are many other choices that I like better.

I have drunk this rum for the last 25 years since I have been working in South America. It tastes like a top quality cognac, only smoother. For sipping, I consider this the ideal. Some rum lovers would probably say it is a "girl's rum" since the solar process makes it much smoother than Mount Gay XO. For mixing I would prefer the Mount Gay. The Santa Teresa you should drink pure and no ice. I recommend a cognac glass. This rum has been hard to get lately due to the political situation in Venezuela but seem to become available again.

I like this one. Hint of caramel, not sweet and very natural. I still have some left in a bottle and bought another one in the meantime. Good to have it in the cabinet

Been wanting to try this rum for some time now and it didn't disappoint me. I like my rums a bit sweeter, but it has just enough vanilla and molasses kick to satisfy that...It's a bit hot in the back of the throat on the finish for me...but that's my only complaint. It's a nice sipping rum and worth the wait.
