Venezuela | Aged | 40% ABV

Santa Teresa 1796 rum is produced in Venezuela and aged using the solera system that blends rums aged between 4 and 35 years. Before bottling, the rum is aged for a further year in large French oak casks to marry the blends.

This is one smooth rum without any cloying sweetness or added flavorings. It's a perfect straight-up sipping rum, one of the best in the $50 US category. Excellent.

Had myself a tasting with the Angostura 1824, Atlantico and Santa Teresa 1796 and the problem for me was that I couldn't quite decide the better of the three. I found them too similar.

What a good surprise was it to test this rum! It has a light but nice orange color.
The nose is very sweet with hints of vanilla, caramel and oak.
In the mouth it is very delightful, it feels sweet but just enough, with aromas of vanilla, baking spice, and even maybe a tiny bit ofor chocolate.
Try it!!!

Not as full-on flavoured as say Diplomatico Reserva, but the flavour comes more in the form of subtly sweet okay notes, and might be one of the most easy to drink rums I've had. Has absolutely no afterburn and is exceptionally smooth, if it was cheaper I could easily see myself necking most of a bottle in a night.

An excellent Venezuelan rum, to be permanent part of my "active collection" (my 10 best). I love this rum, and I believe is the best representative of Venezuelan rums.

This rum has everything that a good rum sipper should have. It starts with some stone fruits and caramel notes but finishing dry and long. The solera gives it some extra depth in character and you can easily compare it with a great cognac or brandy de Jerez. Great value and for the more advanced palate.

This rum as other rums benefits usually from stay in the glas for some minutes to deliver right taste. It is not so sweet! recommended to the price around 45 euro!

Alkohol: 40 %

found this on sale and had never heard of it. Looked it up on Rum Ratings and found it hard to resist. a great little sipper and the only negative is that the label looks like it belongs on a whiskey bottle. Oh well, still in the top 10 rums on my list at the minute.

It's Santa Teresa's 1796 turn today :-).
Nose : vanilla and a little fruitness which I cannot identify. Pleasant.
Palate : at first vanilla again. Dark chocolate. A little licorice is coming through. A little oak, walnut, tobacco and leather in addition. Smooth but not sweet. No sharpness, 40% ABV are well balanced. All in all interesting and not overpowering notes.
Finish : to short with a little sweetness and a little oak spice
Conclusion : a good and solid rum with different notes to other rums. But after swallowing nothing remains.
