Santa Teresa 1796 rum is produced in Venezuela and aged using the solera system that blends rums aged between 4 and 35 years. Before bottling, the rum is aged for a further year in large French oak casks to marry the blends.
This rum was first created in 1996 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the establishment of the distillery, the Santa Teresa Hacienda.

Hiermit hat es 2010 angefangen, hatte zwei Flaschen aus Venezuela mitgenommen. Jahre später nachbestellt, war leider nicht mehr so gut. Nostalgie spielt hier auch mit.
This is pretty tasty with one rock, or neat... cooling it off brought out the deep brown sugar and spices, really drinkable.
I’ve been waiting this for a long, but in the end I was kind of disappointed.
Very nice bottle and colour.
Rich balanced flavour, a dry rum, but somehow sweet and sour.
Vanilla notes and a hint of oak. There is also something like an “old walnut”.
It has a solera “boost” but in the end lacks somehow in the body. Aftertaste somehow ok but not great.
I recommend to try it a bar before buying a bottle. For me is one of the few that in the end I prefer it with ice or gb rather than sipping. Let it breath and try it in different ways. Interesting but its dryness is not my cup of rum.
I must say i really don't understand why this rum is rated below 8. It is really an excellent rum and great value for incredibly reasonable price. First sip, instant satisfaction! Great flavor, some hints of sweetness (molasses, caramel) and a bit of oak. I really enjoyed it.
Light nose, slight spice taste but smooth going down with a slight spice after taste
A really nice, rich and solid rum. Great dark color, faint but pleasant nose. Rich almond, caramel mouth at first sip, balanced and not overly sweet.
Not my favorite, but no objections at all.
This was the start of my experience of becoming a rum connoisseur and my goal of experiencing at least 200 different rums! This is always the first rum that new club members are started out with and I sampled it on July 13, 2021. I smelled vanilla and pepper and tasted strong pepper at the end. I would label this fairly mellow. I had tasted rum before but never concentrated on the nose and specific elements on my palate. To me, this rum was just average.
Veľmi príjemný rum pre ľudí čo prechádzajú od sladkých rumov k nedosladzovanym. Jemná chuť, nenútene ovocie, čokoláda,vanilka a výrazný karamel. Zaujímavé,že časť zrenia prebieha v sudoch z roku 1796.
The Rum Barrel Review
"On the nose there’s a lovely dark profile. Fresh ground coffee, dark chocolate, caramel, vanilla, plums. There are some tropical fruits like pineapple and passion fruit, followed by a slight grassy note. Nutmeg, old leather, tobacco and white pepper. On the palate it goes down so easy. Milk chocolate, vanilla, honey, mango, toffee and cashews. Canned pineapple, blackcurrant, coconut cream and coca cola. The tobacco note is back along with some cinnamon. Not crazy sweet, fairly well balanced and easy going. Cocoa butter and orange marmalade. Towards the end is where you get a bit more oak spices and some alcohol heat. The finish is short with cocoa nibs, some oak tannins and maple syrup."
Has a nice light sweet vanilla note.
"Spicy notes and a oaky lavour are very pleasant and not overpowering."

Smooth and warming, an easy sipper. Pure rum. Outstanding!

First thing in the nose is smooth warming alcohol with hints of vanilla, cinnamon, oak and maybe even a touch of caramel or molasses. No one thing stands out to me nor does any one thing dominate. Very, very smooth and pleasant aroma.
Sampling neat in a snifter. Soft natural sweetness and fruitiness followed by warming alcohol on the palate. Mid taste starts to dry out and brings a slightly bitter leather hint and drying lingering soft oak notes. Very smooth on the palate. The barrels do not take over this rum, it stays smooth and 'rummy' throughout. Very soft and complex. I think age has mellowed this rum more than anything else. Warming and never hot. Medium/long finish that is dry and slightly oaky.
This is a very nice sipping rum. It doesn't take on bourbon-like or other barrel aged spirit qualities that bury the rum but it does take on complexities from the aging that add depth of flavor and character. I can see it being a really nice rum in simple cocktails as well but I wouldn't use this in complex cocktails or tiki drinks as I think the subtle complexities would be lost in that arena.
This seems like a true rum enthusiast's rum, unadulterated, no sugar or additives. If you like pure aged rums with no sugar or bull then give this a try. A true delight to sip! Back in the day I gave Ron Zacapa a 9. I wouldn't give it that now but I still think it's a great sipper for what it is. This is a better rum. I give this a solid 8.5!
