Venezuela | Aged | 40% ABV

Santa Teresa 1796 rum is produced in Venezuela and aged using the solera system that blends rums aged between 4 and 35 years. Before bottling, the rum is aged for a further year in large French oak casks to marry the blends.

This rum was first created in 1996 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the establishment of the distillery, the Santa Teresa Hacienda.

Aged sweet rum, it is nothing special. Maybe the worst regular sweet style rum I had.

It is put together in a very good way. This rum is very nicely balanced. It became one of my favorites.

Wonderful rum
Fruity start with a slightly sweet finish. Recommend drinking without ice.

For me this is only a slightly above average rum. It is easy to drink and has a nice presentation but lacks character. For the price there are better options. If I felt generous I would give it a 6.5

I have been drinking rum for over 50 years. In that time I have had different types of rums at different price points. This is one of my favorites, and I am only sad I found it at 70. It is smooth with wonderful flavours. We just did a comparison of this and Mount Gay XO (which is 1/3 more expensive), and there was no competition. This will be my go to sipping rum.

Color is rich brown oak. On the nose it gives sweet notes of vanilla, honey, caramel and oak. Spices hit quite fast at sip and sweetness is subtle. Notes of leather, tobacco and chocolate. Really is my kind of drink.

Please don’t forget to try this fantastic rum. Before I tried this Diplomático Exclusiva Reserva and Plantation XO would be the top priority for me. But not really sure where in between them I’m placing Sankta Teresa. It’s just as good!

Very respected and storied distillery. But this is very average. I expected more and am now am 100% convinced that the Solera system is cheating, marketing and BAD for rum. KNOW WHAT YOU ARE BUYING AND DRINKING. This might have been an exceptional rum if left to age and mature on its own merits. But in the solera system it is married with several barrels of different rums. Ask yourself; "Do I like this Rum that offers all manner of cask influences on its taste profile". Or would you prefer a real and properly aged rum that carries the characteristics of its individual process from distillation to bottle. I MUCH prefer the later. This could have only 1% of 35 year old rum but certainly no more thasn 5%. That is how solera works. I have tried more than 2 dozen solera rums now. There have been some good ones. There have been not been any great rums using the solera system. Not even one. In can't help thinking a lot of fine rum has been waisted trying to save time and gain marketing spin. Just say "NO" to solera. It works fine for Sherry..........but who cares???

Tried this on advice from a store owner. Very enjoyable. Fairly smooth, not too sweet and a reasonable, but not great flavor.

Come da aspettativa, bella la confezione, amabile al palato.
