Santa Teresa 1796 rum is produced in Venezuela and aged using the solera system that blends rums aged between 4 and 35 years. Before bottling, the rum is aged for a further year in large French oak casks to marry the blends.
This rum was first created in 1996 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the establishment of the distillery, the Santa Teresa Hacienda.

The smell is very good to smell caramel and cinnamon, the taste is delicate, slightly spicy. Fine choice.
Delicious.
I must admit, I only hat a few sips at a rum tasting with some friends of mine. But I was really disappointed. This rum is very flat, with no body and no soul. (Of course, I do not know, how my friend has treated his bottle - maybe, if I bought one of these myself, I would judge this rum differently. I like the bottle, anyway.
Nice, dry, non-sweet. Not as good as the rum named in the heading IMO
Cool bottle, nice price and a spicy rum. This is a very good buy in the middle class together with Diplomatico Reserva etc..
Was really interested in this one with it's aging using the solera method. Really like this rum as is not too sweet and has some nice spice notes and lingering finish. A drop of water opens it up.
This is a sweet rum--and a solera, too--in the vein of Ron Zacapa 23. It's very smooth and mildly complex. I think it's a great place for people to start if they don't really like sipping spirits straight. However, I can see myself already tiring of this style.
Ostrejsi, silnejsi rum s vyraunejsi chut, neni tak sladky
No too strong and does not give special flavors but Santa Teresa 1796 follows the classical school of rums!, and on the rock will work.
When I finally got some, it just wasn't what I expected. I will give it time and come back to this one. Maybe my taste buds will mature... or something like that?
As the diplomatico I really like this rum, don't know if it's the way to make it in Venezuela but the flavours and strength are really well balanced, one of my top sipper.
I prefer sweet rums, this is fine but ED12 was better.
Let's say 7.5/10
I have seen the reviews where people say to add a little bit of water to this to unleash the flavors. I did not do this, rather I also like a big ice ball and let it slowly melt in the water while cooling the rum. For me, this one really didn't do anything. It was smooth, but didn't have any hints of flavors that I really like in other rums. But I will still go 7 for the smoothness.
Picked up a bottle in Maryland for $43.60 including tax. Tasty rum, but I've had others in that price range that I like better.
Reminds me a bit of the Pampero ,it lacks the bite of the Selecto and a wonderful ,fairly complex, not to sweet rum. Hints of Cocoa,Cofffee but it also mixed with reminders of the solera System which use to produce sweeter rums. A great choice
not so sweet like Diplomatico 12, reminds me Pampero Anniversario in palate, ....smooth, thick, pleasant.
When I first received this bottle, I opened the canister and the smell reminded me of church (the candle wax around the cork lid).
The time I tried it (neat) I wasn't overly impressed; strong spice smell and taste which was making it hard to smell or taste anything else.
The next time I added a little water and it opened the drink right up.
I do like this stuff but for me it requires a touch of water to enjoy it fully.
I think that the young rums in the blend are poor enough that the older ones can't make up the slack. Sounds great on paper, but is only middle of the road in the glass.
I like this one very much. I don't drink it every chance I get, but it rates up there with others at the $40 range. I keep it under my bar, since my bar top is covered with my go-to rums in the $20 and under range. I have luckily found many good rums in the range to keep me happy.
