Sailor Jerry Spiced

Priemerny rum, nieje prilis sladky, je v nom citit nevtieravu chut korenia a pomerne vyraznu chut alkoholu..nic extra...

From the quality perspective: it's totally unremarkable. It's very sugary with obviously added flavours: fruits (cherries?), vanilla, spices (black pepper comes to my mind). Too sweet for my taste, clearly artificial in nature, the flavour disappears extremely quickly, no persistence whatsoever.
Ok, the Rum family is rather large and there is no "official" position as to what a Rum should be like... Yet this spiced drink is not Rum in my book: call it liquor.
I think that this product has an interesting quality/price equation especially if you bought it to blend it in a cocktail.
One simple question: if you rate 7 this Rum, how would you rate a Hampden Estate, full proof? Or a Demerara, 15 y.o. by Samaroli, or even more humbly a Remember by Pepi Mongiardino? This I would like to know.

I really like this brand. It is so cool. If you want spicy, sweet rum and don't want to spend so much money, but this one. I drink it with a coke. 3+1 for branding. I can compare it to JD in whisky/bourbon area.

Vanilla cupcakes! With frosting. That's all I get on the nose, along with a good kick of alcohol. Maybe the cupcakes were made in a kitchen that also bakes spiced goods? It's incredibly one-note.

On the tongue, the rum delivers the vanilla promised on the nose, with a bit of spice, but not much. It's rather sweet, and even a tad medicinal (not in a good way).

I'll be honest—spiced rums are not my forte. But even for what I tend to use them for—dessert topping, coffee correcting, baking, the odd mixed drink—the Sailor is still a bit of a last resort. Spiced rum is so easy to make, and more and more (good) spiced rums are hitting the market these days. It's disappointing to see a great artist's legacy tarnished this way (even if he liked the stuff).

Fľaša je dosť obyčajná, vôňa nevýrazná, alkoholová, s dominanciou vanilky. V chuti rovnako dominuje vanilka, možno trochu oriešky. Žiaľ žiadne iné tóny nie je cítiť, jedná sa o dosť suchý rum a tipoval by som aj viac ako udávaných 40% alkoholu. Tento drink mi veľmi silno pripomína ochutenú vodku. Evidentne nezrel, takže absentuje pre rum dôležité dubovo-dymové pozadie. Nuž, je to "spiced". Za danú cenu sa dajú zohnať o dosť lepšie kúsky, nerozumiem všeobecne vysokým ratingom, mne vôbec nesadol.

Avast, what a deceptive rum this be! She smells sweet of sugar and vanilla, but deep down she be a sea devil in disguise! There be no sweetness or vanilla in her taste. Aye, she be spicy, but more bitter than sweet, and unless I am mistook, there be a hint of lime buried deep in there. LIME. Hell and furies! Who needs that! This be not the hidden treasure the landlubbers make it out to be. There be better treasures to be had, maties! arrgh!

I think of Sailor Jerry as Captain Morgan's lackluster brother. Despite claims of surpassing Captain Morgan it isn't as smooth.

While I'm generally not a fan or consumer of store-bought spiced rum (it's seriously easy to make yourself, people!) this is one of the better options in a bind. Higher proof with a sweet cherry & vanilla profile, it goes down dangerously well with coke. A little bit too much added sugar for my palate but if you're looking for a spiced rum, skip the "Captain" and go with the "sailor".
