A Dutch blend of young and fruity rums from Barbados, the Dominican republic and a drop from Jamaica. A very fruity nose with a little fudge and sweet oak. On the palate a little salty caramel, again a variety of fruits, easygoing tannines, some vanilla and a rather peppery finish. The Jamaican part is rather small but the funk is very present without becoming dominant.
This rum is at the same time a mouthfull of strong flavours but also rather light and easy. Perfect stuff for a pleasant night with some friends. Enough complexity to remain interesting, definitely worth to buy again!
⭐️Mates Gold Rum⭐️
Origin: Mixed 🌎
Style: English/Spanish Industrial Rum
A group of life-long mates with entrepreneurial spirit came together to create an unadulterated rum of exceptional quality and taste with the help of legendary, Amsterdam-based rum blenders E&A Scheer. The result is nothing short of amazing! A 3-5 year old rum from Foursquare Distillery on Barbados is blended with a Dominican rum from Alcoholes Finos with a similar age statement and topped off with a finishing touch of funky and fruity Jamaican pot still rum-blend, courtesy of three different estates. The Spanish style rum brings a light sweetness to the party, while the English adds the depth. This would make one hell of an Old fashioned or El presidente, but to be honest...I like it neat, perhaps with a lime twist and an ice cube once the warmer temperatures arrive in summer. It is however a drink made by mates, and should be enjoyed with mates as well.
Nose: Straight up molasses, Pineapple, Fruit preserves, Almonds, Caramel
Taste: Ripe fruit, Vanilla, Salted caramel, Cinnamon
Finish: Smooth, warm medium finish, with a building spicy backbone. The funky fruity esters linger on your tongue.
Overall: I could drink this all day! A very good balance of a lightness and depth.
Rum tasting in Amsterdam continued with Mates Gold Rum. Decent bottle and label design. 3 to 5 year blend. Bright golden color. Strong and sweet oak mixed with Jamaican glue and rubber straight to your nose and palate when neat sipped. Strong but sweet burn at the end. Very unique and interesting blend, but it would be better without the Jamaican component.
