A nice tasting rum with hints of caramel. Enjoyable on its own or with your favorite mix.

Smells like maple fudge but tastes like burnt caramel with a hint of tart fruit. Good but not spectacular. Price point was good when on sale.

Bon rhum à déguster seul mais peux se prendre avec du 7up ou du coke.

Still on qurantine, still alive.
Trying two not expensive and not too old drinks side by side: Bacardi 10 vs Porteno 8.
Firstly B10. Strange etanol on the nose. Seems does not evaporate in a while. Pretty smooth on the palate, but again the same hint of the alcohol bites and ruins the taste. The aftertaste is the best part of this exercise.
Then there was P8. Light and semi sweet. Again, nothing special in the taste, but it is simply more attractive and fine.
So Bacardi 5.6 - Porteno 6.5

This company has now changed names again, for the third time. It is now called Canasteros, but Porteno was the most popular name on the shelves. The third company has the same bottle and description, but with a different label. The first name change caused my initial review to be inadvertently deleted.

I first wrote my review for this rum way back in June of 2018, so I am now only going from my memory of it. It is a dry rum aged in heavily charred Jack Daniels casks. It is also a solera rum and not truly 8 years old. This would be great to introduce bourbon and whiskey drinkers to the world of dry rums with no additives. For me, their 15 year solera rum has less of the Jack Daniels influence.
