Ron Zacapa XO rum

Ron Zacapa XO

Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV

Ron Zacapa XO Rum is produced in the highlands of Guatemala where it is distillled from fresh cane juice. The rum is then aged from 6 to 23 years at 7544 feet above sea level at 62 °F (17 °C) using the solera process. The solera aging process incorporates barrels that previously held American whiskeys, sherries, wines and Cognac

The unique Ron Zacapa XO glass decantur features an impression of a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle

First off, I recognize the fact that this rum is sugared fairly heftily.

With that being said...

It has a nice mahogany color with shades of red.

Its aroma is pleasant with a little alcohol sting.

It has some spiciness to it but also some sweetness and flavors that come from the cognac barrels in which it is finished for an additional couple of years. Flavors of vanilla and toffee seemed prominent to me. Other flavors were detected below the surface but not identifiable. The finish is somewhat sweet yet spicy and lasts rather long.

My personal objection is the $100 price tag. I feel it's about $20 too much.

It's a fine rum and far superior to the Zacapa 23 Solera but if you're going to spend that much I recommend Mount Gay 1703 Old Cask rum, Clement Cuvee Homere Rhum, and Flor de Cana 25 Single Estate rum.

You definitely get some sort of sweet fruit in the first sip. A little burn in the aftertaste. Has the typical deep sugar taste of runs from the region.

Definitely good, but not really great either.

Yes. This is great. No. It is not worth the price. I got two bottles. Both were gifts from someone who had gotten a bargain.
If you like Zacapa 23 and consider buing this. Dont. Buy 2 more bottles of 23.

Sweet and mellow. Share with friends. Neat.

This is a fantastic rum for my now refined palate. Would still order the 23 when out and about, but this baby sits on my metaphorical top shelf at home.

Really enjoyed this one. Slight burn which was nice for an 80 proof. You can tell it is watered down so proof originally must have been quite high. Overall fantastic

It’s good, though it has a bite of cognac is a bit overpowering.
