Ron Zacapa 23 Solera

Getting good rums can be difficult. This is a reasonable rum that is readily available in my neck of the woods; medium bodied, dark coloured (but apparently more from additions than by nature) sweet with soft spirit bite.

This is a smooth selection. It is sweet but sometimes I'm in the mood for that.

A little too spicy for my likings. It's ok to sip but would not be my go to.

This is a classic rum, but not the best. Not that sweet like many other rums are, so I think this is a good rum for thoose who comes frome the whiskey to start with.

This rum was great when it first came out. It was a home run from first bottle
But now it has lost some of its taste since its mass produced but still very good. Sweeter than when they produces their first batch.

This is the first rum I introduced my palate to (like 10 years ago). Back then, I couldn't stop recommending (and drinking) this rum as a must have. It's hard to accept that your top one is going down hill. Last bottle I drank ( 6 months ago) was so dissapointing, I ended up opening a spiced capitan morgan with coke. The amount of sugar in this is just absurd. It's like drinking from a maple syrup container with a sugar cube on your tongue. It is still a decent rum, but for the price, I can easily mention 5 options far better (and even cheaper). Like somebody said, zacapa is trying to suit the american palate… and that is just wroooooonggggg.
-Best approach: water and ice (50/50)
-Worst approach: coke or any sweet beaverage.
-Best with: salty snacks or dark chocolate (70 to 90% cocoa)

In a Glencarin glass neat. Has a rich dark brown caramel color. Aroma is brown sugar, molasses, subtle spices, touch of orange rind, dark fruits, hint of coffee. Taste caramel, slight honey, vanilla, faint cinnamon & nutmeg, maple, slight cherry. Nice sipper with a good cigar.

The flavor is good but not the way that they add it to the bottle.
