Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4) Distilled
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

I had high hopes for this rum after Diplomatico Reserva Exclusive and Plantation XO, but sad to say it did not live up to the hipe.
It had more burn than I expected for such a rum. There are notes of honey and maple syrup in its deep amber color.
Sad to say it was better with coke then straight.
If there is no another rum in the world, it could be 10 of 10, but unfortunately this is not the case. I couldn´t find anything special on this rum...of course there is something...unique spicy, but not for this price. Bought in sale for 48 EUR, but there are plenty of rums in this price with far more better taste, nose and everything.
Bit too pricy and bit too sweet. Rum is well known, likely available to many. Nose and the taste are pleasant and complex.

Getting good rums can be difficult. This is a reasonable rum that is readily available in my neck of the woods; medium bodied, dark coloured (but apparently more from additions than by nature) sweet with soft spirit bite.
God rom men inte tillräckligt för att väga upp till priset.
Not that good sweetened rum better out there too sugary
A little too spicy for my likings. It's ok to sip but would not be my go to.
This is a classic rum, but not the best. Not that sweet like many other rums are, so I think this is a good rum for thoose who comes frome the whiskey to start with.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Pretty good stuff for the price

TL/DR - fine for the price, let it breathe for a while before drinking.
Nice notes of mahogany, tobacco, brown sugar and vanilla. I had this neat and also smoked with applewood. Both were great.
But for the price, I'd go with the much smoother Plantation XO. Z 23 is a nice alternative though.
