Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4) Distilled
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

The added sugar gives it a cloying sweetness but a drop of water or a cube of ice cuts it down and allows the real rum to come through.
Quite a good taste. Good sweetness, a bit strong in the end. Overall very good.
Great taste, easy to drink, a must have to convince everyone around you
Great rum to begin your rum journey on.
Drink neat and enjoy the smooth warm molasses brown sugar notes.
Very similar and equal in enjoyment to diplomatico reserva exclusiva, just marginally less sweet.
If you want to taste the extent of what hogo tastes like, this is the rum to go for. It is very much present yet still integrated with a fruitiness akin to a wine- or sherry-finished liquor. lots of dark caramel as well.
A bit on the pricey side where I live , but it’s a great tasting rum .
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Sneaks up on you. It's like the Malibu of Dark Rums

Remember that time you were throwing back Malibu Coconut Rum pina coladas, and Malibu with pineapple juice, like you were drinking Koolaid? And all of a sudden, you feel like you got punch in the face and land on the floor. Well that's the same feeling you'll have if you sleep on this Zacapa 23. It's not for the faint of heart.
Zacapa 23 is made by some kick butt Guatemalans that had the courage to age their molasses in sky (7544 feet above sea level) for some where between 6 and 23 years (who cares), and it shows. Zacapa 23 is smooth, but strong. Strong, but drinkable. It's that beautiful color you see when the sun sets and rises. Yes, it's a sweet (rich) sipping rum, but if sipping is not your thing, order it up in a mojito. The bartender may give you a strange look in some parts of the world, but that's because he wants you to stick to the basics...like Bacardi Mojito. Live a little, people.
