Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4) Distilled

Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.

The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.

The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

After reading all the glowing reviews, I bought a bottle of this rum, and I am very disappointed. In the USA, I buy it for $35. The Solera costs $53. I have heard that the current owner of this rum producer has been tampering with the formula, so this may have been a great rum years ago, but no more.

Een hele mooie ronde zachte rum. Smaken zijn mooi gebalanceerd en een mooie elegante geur

Tried only a sampler, but it was very nice, little bit to sweet and syrupy for me, but very tasty and aromatic.
My wife who is not that much into rums loooved it.
Will have to buy a bottle to rate it properly.
edit :
Did buy a bottle, and it wasnt as good as i remembered it. I got that sweet alcoholic aftertaste thats not my thing really, altough i cant say its bad.

This was my first on the shelf and it filled its place. Before I found other favorites, I enjoyed every opportunity. Still holds I think, with a good sweetness.

Lack of layering, but maybe it is a good choice for making HighBall or adding to ice cream
I have used half a bottle of this Ron in ice cream

The added sugar gives it a cloying sweetness but a drop of water or a cube of ice cuts it down and allows the real rum to come through.

Quite a good taste. Good sweetness, a bit strong in the end. Overall very good.
