Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4) Distilled

Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.

The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.

The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Found the taste very thin, and lacked any complexity.

This dark aromatic rum offers a satisfying bite on the first sip and delicate finish as a reward. The smoky notes are amplified by the mellow spicy undertones.

Amazing stuff and one I'll keep on hand.

Just discovered this rum on a trip to Colombia and couldn't get enough of it. It's got a lovely dark colour and is very smooth. We ended up bringing 3 litres back to the UK!

This is a very sweet rum, a bit too much in my opinion. It's good for sure, nobody can say otherwise, but it doesn't deserve its reputation. It lacks something ... maybe more flavor or power. The finish is interesting.

Ein Rum den irgendwie jeder gut findet, auch nicht Rumtrinker mâgen ihn. Leckerer süßer Rum, passt auch gut zu einer Zigarre.

It is a little overpriced but I enjoy it mixed with Coke. It is a sweet Dark rum.

Have to taste it again coz the bottle I tasted it from had a problem (tasted in a bar).

Funny nose for a rum. Nose of gin (genepi aromas). Berries with hints of mocha and caramel.

Short medium finish dominated by alcohol vapors and spiced flavors.

This is a great rum. Very smooth. I think I actually prefer this to the Zacapa XO.

I' belive a blind test between the this and the XO would bring surprising results. But I still prferr the XO for a very special moment. And this rum for a nice end of the day.

rather one of my favorites due to the sweeter character, but i wonder if it's from addition of sugars as the sweetness doesn't seem to come from natural distilled liquid affected by oak aging.

still a commendable flavor profile.

it was even better when the price was lesser than now days as it seems Diageo has increased prices too frequently to make this less attractive for my wallet/palate preference ratio.

in conclusion, if you care not for price history and prefer sweeter profile, a good choice.

if you are very experienced and well versed in rum, steer clear!
if you are new to rum experience, do invest for tasting!
