Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4) Distilled

Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.

The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.

The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Smooth elegant bourbon and grape scent with a spicy taste with tones of butterscotch and chocolate in the background. Very endurant aftertaste, really stays with you. Top class !!!!

For sure I have Zacapa 23 in my "active collection" but not for every day sipping. A great rum and well positioned but for occasions.

Color obscuro, aroma a caramelo con sensaciones de vainilla y miel. El sabor es ΓΊnico, ideal para tomarse solo pero tambiΓ©n con un "pintado" de coca cola. Es uno de los mejores rones del mundo.

I expected more for the price. As others have mentioned, the age is deceptive. Can I call a 1984 Ford truck a 2016 model if it just had new a\c installed? Probably not.
The flavor was a good balance of wood, caramel and molasses. This one has most likely been sweetened so don't drink too much at once.

Nice good long taste.
A good burn and not too much.
Nice flavor still i find plantation a bit nicer.
But i like sweet so its just a bit under but the longness of its is very good.

Nose: Sweet, dark fruits, some sherry and some cola syrup/cola bottle confectionery, maybe cherry cola. There is some nice runny honey and milk chocolate too. Deep down there is a smoky element, maybe some cigar box or pipe tobacco and some roasted nuts.

Palate: Sweeeet. Thick and big mouth feel, but very sweet – more than I was expecting given the sugar tests. Brown sugar, oranges…no, marmalade and some banana. There is a distinct taste of Pint Pots/beer bottle sweeties that you used to have as a kid and a bit of cola. Once the sugar coating goes there is actually some depth to this; musty, forest floors/rancio and maybe some aniseed.

Finish: Quite long, more long than medium. Still some sweetness and a bit of banana/orange combo, but there are lots of spicy prickles. Oaky buzz, aniseed, mint, and that tobacco.

first choice in pub after a few beers:) nothing special in this moment but high standard for all rums and you can find it everywhere for good price mostly.

Some sweetness, and quite easy. A complex taste with some smoke, nuts, dried fruit and a liquorice finish.

It's right in the top tier. An excellent sipper that is only exceeded by the special editions.
