Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4) Distilled
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Exzellent sweet smell. Smooth on the tongue with long aftertaste. Perfect with a havana cigarr :)
Commerciale a buon rapporto qualità prezzo. Abbastanza Secco
You won't make step back when choosing this. Yes you feel barrel. Yes you might not enjoy sweet taste. But! Overally it's very balanced rum. And I love it, absolutely.
With this price i would rate this higher than XO. Really balanced rum, easy to drink
Auf jeden Fall ein Kauf wert. Es gibt sicher smoothere rum. Aber schöne Farbe und gut im Geschmack. Langweilige Flasche.
Quite possibly the best sipping rum I've had. Has a sweetness and complexity on the nose that delivers on the palette. Nicest finish of any blended rum I've had - balanced, layered, and lengthy. Great mouthfeel, with a butterscotch component that compliments the balance of heat and sweet. One of the nicer rum drinking experiences to be had IMO. A solid 9+.
From my start in the Rum-world (not so long ago), I have seen much about this rum, so of course it is one you have to try.
It is good, quite sweet and spicy. And that is it, not the best in the world I think, but I would never turn down a glass.
For sure I have Zacapa 23 in my "active collection" but not for every day sipping. A great rum and well positioned but for occasions.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Which infact I did, on the same boat trip returning from Norway. I bought the Plantation in the tax-free shop, but Zacapa was the one they had available at the bar. It has quite a strong nose, and a pretty strong burn too. If you are not ticked-off by added sugar this is a good rum to enjoy! It's one that puts a smile on my face anytime.
