Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4) Distilled

Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.

The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.

The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

This was my start on my adult rum journey and many bottles has passed by. Nowadays I’m not so much into the sweet Spanish styled ron. Instead I’m more into English and French styled rum/rhum. So the rate has going down, down, down.

Delicious and super smooth. However, I find I have to really work it in my mouth to get the most from the flavour which doesn't hang around for long enough.

This one tastes like I would expect real rum flavour should taste like. A little sweet, full flavour, some hint of plum and vanilla. A nice one - but not special.

Klassisk 1. Rom.
Meget sød, og uden dårlig eftersmag. Den eller Diplomatico er en god starter rom 🤔

Darkish. A bit sweet. Strong taste of alcohol. Better than I remembered it.

Slightly sweet at first, gives way to a full bodied aftertaste and a smooth finish, very nice

Bestemt en go rom prisen kan diskuteres. Ikke i den helt søde ende.

Dark and tasty but like others have said, it is a little to sweet.

Other commenters here have really ripped this rum. I actually enjoy its molasses, oaky, rather alcoholic and chalky flavors. But it should be noted that I generally prefer Armagnac to Cognac because of the former's earthy qualities. It was recommended to me by a quality, local merchant who caters to a heavily Latin American customer base. I hadn't delved into its manufacturing details, as others here evidently have done, so my comments are based exclusively on my drinking experience, and not on an intimate knowledge of the product. I enjoy a few ounces every now and then, sometimes with a smear of top-grade chunky peanut butter on crackers, a few dried apricots, and Camembert or Morbier. Makes me happy.
