Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4) Distilled

Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.

The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.

The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

I was a little disappointed first time I tried this one, but it has grown on me. The thing I like is the clear connection to the different barrels it has been aged in. I can clearly find both sherry and wine tones in it, but what stands out is the whiskey tones. It is fairly smoky for being a rum and I didn't expect that. The taste stays fairly long and leaves a pleasant after taste. I like that it doesn't have anything of that typical rum-raisin taste but the flavors leans more to sugar cane, fudge and caramel. Easy to get where I live so for me this is my "all weather" rum.
The package suggests putting a large ice cube in the glass and I would strongly vote against it! All flavors were gone and you were left with a very bland and boring liquor. So drink it room tempered, straight up!

I could not give this super popular rum 8/10. It is heavy. But once drunk the taste and effect of this novel seemed to me pleasant. All the more reason to give it a decent 7/10.

An easy drinking sweet rum with a warming flavour. The alcohol comes through when drinking straight.

I thought this would be tastier...not as smooth as less expensive rum.

A good place to start. Sweet and easy to find. Has been my go to rum but will be moving on from it. Might keep a bottle around at the right price.

My wife like it too.
Taste fine and not to strong.

I received a bottle of this rum from my wife just because she loves me. I must say I was blown away at how tasty this rum is. My nose is not too good at picking all those things out so I won't bother trying.....But the taste, was so sweet and rich, and smooth going down. It does have a bourbon type quality for me and that is even more of a plus. Neat/ An Ice Cube or 2 both work well....I also did try it with a tiny splash of Giner Ale and was not disappointed.

When you're sitting at home and just want something good to enjoy with your favorite show, then the Zacapa 23 Solera is the perfect choice. It has amazing spicy flavour of dark treacle, and isn't too expensive. The only detractor might be that it is slightly too sweet, so you don't want to have this as your only bottle.

On the sweet side, apparently the product of fresh sugar cane and honey. A very nice dark amber. Enjoyed neat in a snifter.
